Chapter 383: Estimated arrival at the outer area in 3 minutes
He crouched down, placed the lockbox on his lap, and began analyzing the lock's mechanism. The lock was a complex hybrid system of mechanics and electronics; any error could trigger a self-destruct sequence. His mind quickly recalled past training sessions, and he began to manipulate it with his hands.
In the headset, Ajie's voice was a little nervous: "You have five minutes. A reinforcement team may arrive later."
"Then pray that my hands are quick enough." Su Ming responded while focusing on the task at hand.
Time flew by as his fingertips moved. Every turn and every click carried an invisible pressure. His mind was completely immersed in it, without any extraneous thoughts.
Finally, the lockbox opened with a soft click. Inside was a confidential document and a flash drive. Su Ming quickly put them away and, without further delay, stood up and prepared to leave.
However, at this moment, Ajie's urgent warning came from the headset: "Su Ming, four targets are rapidly approaching the warehouse! You are running out of time!"
Su Ming's heart tightened, but his expression remained calm. His hand quickly reached for his waist, gripping the gun firmly while he quickly assessed his surroundings. He needed a plan to escape.
He calmly cast his gaze towards the ventilation duct leading to the outside. Although narrow, it was his only way out. He quickly climbed onto the table, removed the vent cover, and crawled inside.
The narrow tunnel made movement extremely difficult, and the sound of breathing was particularly clear in the confined space. Su Ming crawled forward, wary of any enemies chasing him. He tried to make every step as silent as possible, but the psychological pressure continued to accumulate.
"Ajie, give me the direction of the exit." Su Ming asked in a low voice while crawling.
"According to your location, the exit is less than twenty meters away. Just turn left in front." Ajie answered quickly.
"Understood." Su Ming's tone remained calm, but sweat was already trickling down his cheeks. He knew that while twenty meters might not seem like a long distance, in this confined environment, every step could mean the difference between life and death.
Finally, he saw a faint beam of light coming from the front. That was the exit. He quickened his pace, enduring the stinging pain of his shoulder being scraped by the pipe, and crawled forward with all his strength. However, just as he was about to reach the exit, a gunshot was heard from behind.
The bullet struck the pipe wall, sending up a shower of metal debris. Su Ming instantly realized the enemy had caught up. He gritted his teeth, pulled out the last flash grenade from his waist, pulled the fuse, and flung it behind him.
"Bang!" The flashbang exploded in the narrow passage, its intense light blinding the entire space. Su Ming seized the opportunity to escape, landing and rolling before quickly raising his gun and aiming it in the direction of the exit.
After a brief silence, the pursuers appeared at the entrance of the tunnel. However, they had clearly underestimated Su Ming's speed and accuracy. After a few gunshots, the enemy collapsed at the exit.
Su Ming took a deep breath, quickly looted the fallen target's ammunition and equipment, and then turned without hesitation and disappeared into the darkness. He knew that this was just the beginning, and a greater crisis might be waiting for him.
Ajie's voice rang out again in the headset: "Su Ming, the mission was completed beautifully, but you must speed up the evacuation. Now is not the time to celebrate."
"I never celebrate, at least not at this time," Su Ming replied, a sneer playing on his face as he gazed determinedly into the distance. His steps were steady, as if he were already prepared for the next battle.
Su Ming quickly left the scene, sprinting down the dim alley. His ears were keenly listening for every subtle movement behind him; every clatter of his shoes against the ground could signal a pursuit. At this moment, his concentration was intense, his mind racing through every possible scenario.
"Ajie, confirm the safe routes around here for me now. I need the fastest way to evacuate." He whispered, his voice revealing an unquestionable calmness.
"The surrounding terrain is complex, but the nearest safe spot is three hundred meters away, and you'll need to pass through an abandoned building." Ajie's voice was slightly anxious. "The enemy reinforcements may arrive faster than expected."
"It's okay, I'm used to it." Su Ming's mouth curled up slightly, but his pace did not relax at all.
The abandoned building was right before his eyes. Su Ming stopped and looked up. It was a dilapidated three-story building, most of the windows were broken, and the walls were mottled, as if it could collapse at any moment. His eyes swept over every detail of the building, quickly assessing potential threats.
"Ajie, help me confirm whether there are any signs of life in the building." Su Ming asked in a low voice while taking out a micro detector and gently placing it on the ground.
A few seconds later, Ajie's voice came: "There are two figures in the building, located in the northeast corner of the second floor. Their identities are unknown."
Su Ming frowned. He didn't like this kind of uncertainty, especially at the critical moment of evacuation. After hesitating for a moment, he finally decided to enter the building.
His footsteps tapped lightly on the wooden floor, Su Ming's movements as silent as a ghost. His hand remained fixed on his gun, his eyes scanning his surroundings sharply. With each step, he carefully avoided any possible noise on the floor. He knew that any slight mistake could reveal his position.
As he approached the northeast corner of the second floor, he heard faint whispers coming from behind a half-open door. He stopped, held his breath, and pressed his ear to the door, trying to hear what the other party was saying.
"The thing should be in their hands. We can complete the mission by catching him." A hoarse voice came with a bit of impatience.
"But we are short of manpower, and he doesn't seem to be an ordinary target." Another voice was slightly hesitant.
Su Ming's heart trembled. Clearly, the other party had realized that he was a formidable opponent. This meant that they might have more plans, and he had no time to waste.
He quickly adjusted his stance, his gaze fixed on the door with a cold stare. He took a deep breath, kicked it open, and instantly dove into the room, his gun pointed precisely at the two men. They were clearly caught off guard by his sudden action.
"Put down your weapons and lie on the ground!" Su Ming said coldly, his voice leaving no room for doubt.
The two men obviously did not expect to be attacked so decisively. One of them raised his hands subconsciously, but the other tried to touch the weapon at his waist.
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out, and the bullet grazed the wrist of the man who was trying to resist, knocking his gun to the ground. He covered his wrist and groaned in pain, but he dared not move again.
Su Ming quickly stepped forward and subdued the two men, tying them up with his own restraints. He searched one of them and found a small communicator and several handwritten documents.
He quickly flipped through the document and found that it detailed the route and time of his previous mission. He frowned, secretly alert in his heart, obviously he had been exposed earlier than expected.
"Whose people are you?" Su Ming's voice was as cold as ice, and his eyes were fixed on the two people who were subdued.
The two men just remained silent, obviously ready to be interrogated.
Su Ming wasted no time. He put away the documents and communicator, then said softly, "This building could be discovered by the enemy at any time. You'd better pray that reinforcements arrive quickly."
After saying this, he turned and left the room, quickly retreating from the other side of the building. After passing through the abandoned building, he finally reached a safe spot. It was a hidden hut with an underground passage behind the door.
After entering the cabin, he breathed a sigh of relief, temporarily relaxing his tense nerves. He took out the flash drive he had just taken from his pocket and inserted it into the portable device in his hand.
Data streams flashed across the screen, and Su Ming's eyes were fixed on the contents. The contents of the file were extremely complex, involving a large number of code names and encrypted information. He knew that the truth hidden behind this information might subvert everyone's understanding.
"Ajie, I need you to analyze this data." He connected the drive to the communication device, his voice revealing an unmistakable urgency.
"Give me five minutes," Applejack replied, a hint of concentration in his tone.
As he waited, Su Ming's thoughts drifted. He recalled why he had chosen this path in the first place. Those complex memories were woven with contradictions and reluctance, but more so, an inexplicable sense of fate. He knew he couldn't turn back, nor could he stop.
Five minutes later, Ajie's voice came again: "Su Ming, the value of this data is beyond imagination, but it also comes with great danger. We need to act immediately and pass this information on."
"I understand." Su Ming nodded, his eyes once again becoming firm and stern. He had no time to think about the past or the future; every step now needed to be precise and accurate.
He quickly packed up his gear, checked his ammunition and equipment, then left the hut and disappeared into the night. The world outside was still full of dangers, but for Su Ming, this was just the beginning.
Su Ming quickly blended into the cover of darkness, his steps as light and swift as a cheetah's, his body pressed against the wall to ensure he wouldn't be spotted. Ajie's voice rang out again in his headset: "Su Ming, the latest intelligence indicates the enemy has dispatched two pursuit teams. They are closing in on you in a fan-shaped formation and are expected to reach the outer area in three minutes."
Su Ming silently calculated the time in his mind, his face showing no sign of panic. He quickly scanned his surroundings, assessing the terrain's advantages. Around the corner was an abandoned truck. He nimbly jumped onto its roof, lying flat on his back, his ear pressed to the metal, and listened carefully to the sounds around him.
