Chapter 2452: Spare Me, Boss
Chapter 2452: Spare Me, Boss
For the first time, Xu Huo relied on his intuition and perception to determine the direction, and even though he was clearly not subjected to mental interference, he still ended up at the original position. The second time, he used characteristics to assess the direction, choosing the one with the lowest level of danger, yet he returned to the original position again.
The third time, he tried using props and instruments to attack directly ahead, hoping to break the invisible force, but he failed once more.
The fourth time, he deliberately wore the super props, and similarly, failed.
Previously, he speculated that this dungeon venue was a special space and considered the possibility of multiple spaces. If it was the effect achieved by ordinary props or the dungeon boss, similar super props might interfere with each other. But the reality was that there was no interference, which could only indicate that either the power level of the dungeon venue was far higher than super props or this place itself was a stable space comparable to a divided space, space-time items’ mutual interference already had little effect.
After several failures, Xu Huo sat under the first marker and waited.
It’s unlikely he was trapped here for no reason; if the hidden friend had targeted him, it wouldn’t be long before it showed up itself. If it was just the special operational rules of the dungeon venue, he might not have to do anything for this crisis to resolve itself.
After about ten minutes, he realized someone was standing ahead.
Looking up, he couldn’t distinguish features or clothing, just a shadowy figure stood there. Judging only from the silhouette, it seemed a bit like the girl in the painting.
It made no sound, and after confronting each other for a while, during one blink of Xu Huo’s eyes, the shadow seemed to transform into a cluster of branches, seemingly unchanged.
He walked over to take a look, paused for a moment, and then continued walking toward the village direction.
This time, he hadn’t walked far before he felt someone behind him. Turning around, he only felt a tall figure brush past him, disappearing immediately.
Judging from the height, it seemed more like the Big Man who had come last.
Raising an eyebrow, Xu Huo continued walking; soon, it seemed as though there was another figure ahead peering at him. He raised his hand and chopped the tree in front, making the shadow disappear.
To be safe, he utilized spatial power, activating the Water Rubik’s Cube’s spatial barrier before continuing. The shadow shifted to his side, similarly fleeting without lingering.
"Here again." He quickened his pace, but there always seemed to be a shadow following him, sometimes like this person, sometimes like that one, none he particularly missed — just players from Zhongmu Village.
Every attack on the shadow missed, Xu Huo randomly hacked around the forest, pausing occasionally, until suddenly a voice came from a distance:
"Mr. Xu."
Xu Huo frowned; this was Chi Cai’s voice, and unlike before, this time the shadow had substance in his spatial awareness!
Moving through the mental portal, he quickly grabbed the player hiding in the tree to throw them to the ground.
A skinny woman flipped in midair, landing steadily on the ground, grinning cheekily, "Did I give you a fright..."
But before she finished speaking, her smile abruptly stiffened as her legs were forced to kneel hard on the ground by Xu Huo’s gesture!
With one hand supporting herself, the skinny woman avoided having her dignity tarnished by rolling to the side and diving into the thick bushes.
Xu Huo wouldn’t let her go like that, directly opening several mental portals to bring her back face-to-face, just as the skinny woman clapped in midair, shouting, "Action unites in force!"
As her words left her mouth, a transparent bubble-like barrier appeared between them, but Xu Huo didn’t confront it head-on, instead opening two more portals to move both himself and the woman a few meters away.
This time, he wasn’t polite, immediately opening the Mirror World to hold her captive, the Black Blade in his hand thrusting towards her throat!
The defensive barriers stacked up, seemingly able to withstand this attack. Although it couldn’t completely block, buying some time shouldn’t be a problem — the skinny woman thought so, but she hadn’t anticipated Xu Huo’s prop usage speed. In the blink of an eye, the Black Blade chopped on the barrier seven or eight times, with the same level props, there’s no way the Black Blade would lose, let alone these stacked barriers?
Seeing the blade slice down towards her eye, yet the characteristics and props didn’t activate timely, the skinny woman’s legs were quicker than her hands, directly kneeling on the ground, "Big brother, spare me!"
The cool edge of the Black Blade stopped at the woman’s ear, a few strands of hair fluttering down. Her eyes widened, eyeballs uncontrollably turning towards the direction of the blade. In the close metal blade, her slightly distorted face due to fear was reflected.
"Were you the one calling me earlier?" Xu Huo’s hand was steady as ever, with the blade halted by her head.
"No!" The skinny woman quickly responded, "I just arrived nearby and came over to see when I heard the noise. Weren’t you hacking around in the grove? I even thought you were looking for the hidden friend, didn’t dare go close, yet you found me so fast."
Xu Huo remained expressionless, unclear if he believed her or not. The woman didn’t dare risk her life, quickly explaining, "If you don’t believe me, I can use the Truth Serum. I absolutely haven’t lied!"
"Also, I’m not an actor; I definitely wouldn’t shout aimlessly in the forest, pretending to be the hidden friend would certainly become a dungeon target!"
"Oh?" Xu Huo seemed a bit interested, "Have you seen the actor?"
"Encountered two fakes," the woman said, "They used some stealth items, probably wanting to impersonate the hidden friend and make some quick cash, but they disappeared the day after the fighting unexpectedly."
"How are you sure they disappeared rather than left voluntarily?" Xu Huo asked.
"Items!" The woman replied, "Those two vanished from their usual item grounds, and when others called them, found their items were ownerless, so it’s very likely they died. Since no bodies or traces were found, we termed it as disappearance."
"Only you by yourself?" Xu Huo looked around.
"Only me!" Fearing he thought companions were ambushing nearby, the woman quickly added, "I had eight players with me in the alliance team, those two pretending to be the hidden friend killed three solo players they came across, then vanished themselves. I didn’t trust the rest, so I sneaked away..."
The Black Blade moved away from her ear, the woman sensed the danger had passed and breathed a sigh of relief as she stood up.
"Did you encounter anyone else on your way here?" Xu Huo asked, "Several kids and adults."
"Big brother, are you referring to the local villagers?" The woman actually had seen them, "Right by the nearby stream, there should be a player inside."
Xu Huo nodded towards the front, "Lead the way."
A hint of doubt flashed across the woman’s face, but she walked ahead obediently.
