Chapter 1960 Symptom Onset
Chapter 1960 Symptom Onset
Su Jingzhuo lying on the couch suddenly opened his eyes.
The candlelight reflected in his eyes. At first, there was only a layer of turbid mist under his eyes, but in an instant, the mist was soaked with scarlet, like two balls of burning charcoal.
A low snoring sound came from his throat, not the panting of an ordinary person, but more like a wild animal trapped in a cage that was annoyed. Every exhalation was accompanied by a hot and fishy smell.
"Brother! Are you awake?" Su Shengsheng's heart, which had just relaxed, began to lift again. She stretched out her hand to touch his forehead. Before her fingertips touched the warm skin, she saw Su Jingzhuo suddenly tilt his head, with transparent saliva flowing uncontrollably from the corners of his mouth. The saliva fell on the brocade quilt, and it smelled faintly of blood.
His fingers were gripping the edge of the bed so tightly that his knuckles were white and his nails were almost digging into the wood.
The originally gentle face was now twisted into a knot, the teeth were chattering, and the canines were slightly protruding, as if it was about to pounce and bite in the next second.
Before Su Shengsheng could come to his senses, Yan Ruyu dragged him aside.
Then, Su Jingzhuo's eyes were fixed on Yan Ruyu, without any warmth, only the greed and ferocity of a predator staring at its prey.
Su Shengsheng felt a chill run down his spine from the look. He subconsciously took a half step back, and his lower back bumped into the copper basin beside the table. A crisp "clang" sound rang out in the silent room.
The sound seemed to stimulate Su Jingzhuo. The snoring in his throat suddenly rose and turned into a sharp roar. He struggled to get up from the bed, and the bed curtains that were like iron chains were rustling as he pulled them.
"Brother! Calm down! I'm Shengsheng!"
Su Shengsheng's voice trembled, but she still forced herself not to run away. She knew that if she turned around at this moment, it would only make the out-of-control Su Jingzhuo even crazier.
Under the willow tree outside the courtyard wall, Miss Li was standing in the shadow.
Hearing the roar coming from the room, she gently stroked her cuffs with her fingers hanging by her side, and a strange smile slowly appeared at the corner of her mouth.
The smile did not sound like worry, nor like gloating, but rather like seeing that the object he had carefully cultivated had finally responded. It was a bit satisfying, but also contained some unfathomable calculations.
The green cloth skirt she was wearing moved slightly in the morning breeze, but her body remained motionless, as if she had expected to hear such a sound.
"Miss Li? Why are you here?"
When a familiar voice came, Miss Li slowly turned around.
Su Zhenhai walked quickly over with a medicine bag in his hand, with beads of sweat on his forehead, obviously he had just returned from a hurry.
Miss Li looked up at him, the smile in her eyes had long since faded, leaving only a calm expression: "Master Su, this is a strange question. Even if Jing Zhuo doesn't continue to let me treat him, he is still my savior. I come to see him, isn't it okay?"
Su Zhenhai waved his hands quickly, his tone a little awkward: "That's not what I meant, Miss Li, please don't misunderstand. I just... didn't expect you to be here."
As he spoke, he subconsciously clenched the medicine bag in his hand, looking even more embarrassed.
He knew that Miss Li had put a lot of effort into treating Su Jingzhuo, and now it was a bit unreasonable for her to find another doctor to prescribe medicine.
Miss Li's eyes fell on the hand where he hid the medicine bag and she said calmly, "That's the medicine that Master Su is holding, right?"
Su Zhenhai's face was even more embarrassed, and he laughed dryly twice: "Yes... It's a new prescription prescribed by the doctor. Let's try it."
Miss Li followed his gaze and glanced into the yard. The roaring sound from the house was still coming intermittently, like a blunt knife cutting people's hearts.
She looked away, her voice still flat, "I hope this doctor is truly capable and won't let all my efforts these days go to waste."
After she finished speaking, she turned and left without waiting for Su Zhenhai's response.
Su Zhenhai frowned slightly and wanted to say something, but the noise in the house was getting louder and louder, so he didn't have time to think about it and quickly pushed open the gate and walked in.
As soon as he stepped into the yard, Su Jingzhuo's roar became extremely clear, mixed with Su Shengsheng's suppressed exclamation.
His heart tightened, and he rushed to the door in two steps and pushed open the half-open door.
The scene before him froze him in place instantly—Su Jingzhuo had already broken free from half of the bed curtain, with half of his body leaning out of the bed, his hands stretched forward, his nails bluish-white, and he was about to grab Su Shengsheng.
At this critical moment, Huo Changhe moved as fast as the wind, his right hand turned into a knife, and landed steadily on the back of Su Jingzhuo's neck.
With a dull thud, Su Jingzhuo's body instantly lost strength. The scarlet in his eyes quickly faded away, and he fell limply on the bed, without a sound.
Huo Changhe withdrew his hand and turned to look at Su Zhenhai at the door.
Su Zhenhai's hand holding the medicine bag trembled slightly. He looked at the unconscious Su Jingzhuo and it took him a long time to breathe a sigh of relief.
"Doctor," Su Zhenhai's eyes were fixed on Yan Ruyu's face. "Is there any possibility of curing my son's illness?"
Su Shengsheng stood beside Yan Ruyu and was about to speak when he saw Yan Ruyu glance at him lightly - the look was very indifferent, but it carried a coldness that did not allow for questioning.
Su Shengsheng's Adam's apple rolled and he swallowed the words back.
Yan Ruyu raised her eyes to look at Su Zhenhai and said, "Don't worry, Envoy Su. Although the young master's illness is difficult, I will do my best."
"Try your best?" Su Zhenhai's voice was stern. "What I want is not to try your best, but to make sure!"
He took a step forward, his tall figure casting a shadow that almost enveloped Yan Ruyu. "Do you know how much my son has endured? He can't stand any more!"
Su Zhenhai's eyes were bloodshot: "If we can't cure him, no one will have a good life!"
Huo Changhe took two steps forward and stood in front of Yan Ruyu. He coldly shattered Su Zhenhai's threat, "Envoy Su, all doctors in the world have compassion, but none of them have omnipotent powers. Even gods can't save people. We said we would do our best, and we will."
Yan Ruyu spoke at the right time: "The city envoy is just too concerned and will cause chaos."
She paused and looked at Su Zhenhai. "Impatient treatment is the worst thing to do. If the city envoy continues to put pressure on me, it will not only throw me off balance, but will also unsettle you."
Su Zhenhai looked at Yan Ruyu's calm eyes, then at his son who was breathing weakly. His tense back slowly relaxed, and his hand holding the medicine bag loosened a little.
The candlelight flickered, and the hostility on his face gradually faded away, leaving only the unconcealable fatigue.
Su Zhenhai lowered his voice, "I was so anxious that I lost my composure. I was not polite just now. I hope you will forgive me."
Huo Changhe didn't say anything, just nodded slightly.
Yan Ruyu stretched out her hand: "City Envoy, give me the medicine."
Su Zhenhai handed over the medicine bag, and Yan Ruyu went to decoct the medicine herself.
The smell of the medicine became stronger. When the medicine was ready, Yan Ruyu brought it into the room and signaled Huo Changhe to wake Su Jingzhuo up.
Just as Su Jingzhuo was about to open his eyes, Yan Ruyu attacked with lightning speed, piercing several silver needles into his body.
His previous madness did not recur.
Su Shengsheng was surprised. He held his breath and said nothing. He just exchanged a glance with Su Zhenhai.
