Chapter 596 - 597 Are You Sure About This? [4th Update]

In the hearts of the citizens of Xiuyuan Country, Prince Yulang was regarded as the epitome of goodness.

Of course, Yulang had abducted women before, but he always dealt with the aftermath cleanly. It could be said that Yulang had committed many despicable acts, but he handled them so appropriately that no one ever spoke ill of him.

Wu Tian? The one who killed the Regent King and the King’s Teacher, Daozuo? The damned fellow! The Regent King was my rival. I had intended to gather evidence and then kill him myself so that Father would think more highly of me when he emerges from seclusion. I didn’t expect Wu Tian to ruin my plans. Daozuo was this prince’s enlightenment teacher, and he dared to kill him? Now he’s even damaging the relationship between my sister and me! Hah, it seems I have no choice but to go and warn him.

Yulang was the Prince; he should be the one the citizens discussed, not some Wu Tian.

The man in black nodded. He came from a powerful family—Yulang’s mother’s family.

Many people mistakenly believed that Yulang, Yi Ren, and Si’er shared the same mother. This was not true.

The current King Xiuyuan, to legitimize his status and sit on the throne with a clear conscience, had married a descendant of the Wuliang family. Before that, however, he had another wife, whom he had killed. The family of that first wife was then secretly taken over by the king. Afterward, in secret, he bestowed the power of this family upon Yulang.

Yulang prepared to head for Duke Guang’s Mansion. He wanted to show Wu Tian why flowers are so red.

Suddenly, a guard rushed in. "Report! The Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect seeks an audience!"

Hearing this, Yulang was startled. The Heavenly Sword Sect was the number one sect in Xiuyuan Country, and its Sect Leader was Jian Xiaotian, a master at the Sixth Rank of the Tongxuan Realm.

"Please, bring him in quickly," Yulang immediately ordered.

「In a study within the Royal Palace」

Jian Xiaotian arrived.

"Sect Leader Jian, may I ask the purpose of your esteemed visit?" Yulang asked politely. He knew that the previous Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect had a cooperative relationship with his grandfather. The previous leader had supported Yulang’s grandfather during the Chen Qiao mutiny, helping him ascend to the throne.

After Yulang’s grandfather became King Xiuyuan, he helped the Heavenly Sword Sect become the top sect. All other sects within Xiuyuan Country were annihilated one by one.

"Hmph!" Jian Xiaotian let out an angry snort.

He was furious, his face ashen. Anyone with eyes could see that Jian Xiaotian was suppressing a rage so immense that he was on the verge of exploding into a murderous rampage.

"What exactly happened?" Yulang asked. He had never seen Jian Xiaotian so enraged.

"I felt I must inform you of this," Jian Xiaotian said, taking a deep breath to barely suppress his anger. "This matter may affect the diplomatic relations between our two countries. My brother, the Great Elder of the Heavenly Sword Sect, was a man of high moral character—a truly good person. Yet, he was inexplicably killed by War God Ye. This is a feud I must avenge."

"What?" Yulang exclaimed in shock. How could this be?

I had been planning to marry Si’er to War God Ye. After all, War God Ye’s sister, Ye Qingxian, is someone Heavenly Emperor Xiao Tian fancies. If that marriage went through, I, Yulang, would have a connection to the Heavenly Emperor. That would be an incredible stroke of luck! But this mess between the Heavenly Sword Sect and War God Ye has put me in a difficult position.

"Sect Leader, are you certain it was War God Ye who killed the Great Elder?" Yulang asked with frustration after a moment of thought.

That War God Ye... he’s arrogant and domineering, but he’s also an idiot. How could someone like him commit murder? And he even killed the Great Elder of the Heavenly Sword Sect? No matter how I look at it, this seems impossible.

"My brother clung to his last breath to tell me the truth," Jian Xiaotian growled. "If it had been a fair fight, how could that man have possibly been my brother’s opponent? But that treacherous bastard, War God Ye, first got close to my brother and then launched a surprise attack when he let his guard down! He’s less than human! I came here to tell you to be prepared, because I am going to kill someone!"

Having said his piece, the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect departed, leaving Yulang stunned by this unexpected turn of events.

Xiuyuan Country and its neighbor, the Qin Country, had comparable military strength. The latter country’s name was once written differently, using the character of a powerful ancient dynasty. A past monarch, feeling that name lacked sufficient grandeur, changed it to the current character, which means ’zither’, though the pronunciation remained the same.

How did things come to this? That bastard, War God Ye! Why would you go and kill someone for no reason?

Yulang’s mind was in turmoil. He needed to find someone to vent his anger on, and he thought of Wu Tian. Yulang decided to make Wu Tian his punching bag. Although Wu Tian had killed the Regent King and the King’s Teacher, Daozuo, Yulang was not afraid of him.

In this country, I, Yulang, am the only male of the royal family. Surely Wu Tian wouldn’t dare to slaughter me, the sole male heir to the throne, right?

...

Knowing that Yulang had stormed out in a fury, Si’er grew very uneasy and decided she had to go to Wu Tian. She rode her mount relentlessly until she reached Duke Guang’s Mansion.

Wu Tian had not expected to see her again and smiled. "Why have you come again?"

"I’m scared!" Si’er said, lowering her head, her voice subdued.

"Scared of what?" Wu Tian asked.

Feeling safe in Wu Tian’s presence, Si’er blurted out, "My older brother!"

"Afraid of him?" Wu Tian laughed.

"Yes, of course I’m afraid!" Si’er said timidly. "After all, he’s the only male in the royal family of Xiuyuan Country and the future heir to the throne. My sister and I are just women. Compared to him, our status is worlds apart. How could I not be afraid?"

Wu Tian merely laughed. In his previous life, he had killed countless sole heirs of so-called mythical families. The sole heir of some minor country meant nothing to him.

Seeing Wu Tian’s dismissive attitude, Si’er knew he was not taking Yulang seriously. She was about to caution him, but before she could speak, a loud shout echoed from outside.

"Is Wu Tian present? Come and pay homage to this prince at once!"

Hearing this, Si’er’s face turned pale. "Oh no, he’s here! Sect Leader, when you go to greet him, please be polite. That way, he won’t have a reason to take his anger out on you."

Wu Tian simply shook his head. He had never paid homage to anyone in his life. The prince of a minor country was nothing but an ant in his eyes. Why would he bother paying homage? He shook his head again and went back to admiring the flowers.

Si’er was dumbfounded. After a moment, she said anxiously, "Sect Leader, my older brother must be incredibly angry."

"That’s right. I am incredibly angry."

An enraged voice followed her words. Yulang had waited for a while, and when Wu Tian failed to appear, he flew into a rage. He strode forward, radiating an air of superiority and fury. "I summoned you, yet you did not come to pay homage. Do you have any respect for hierarchy? For your sovereign?"

Wu Tian continued to admire the flowers, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Why do I hear a dog barking? When did Duke Guang’s Mansion start keeping dogs?"

"You scoundrel!" Yulang had come to use Wu Tian as a punching bag, but instead, he only grew angrier. He could not take it anymore. Power surged through his body as he raised his fist high in the air—the Great Penetrating Fist!—ready to strike Wu Tian.

Wu Tian said indifferently, "Making an enemy of me is a death sentence. Think carefully before you throw that punch."
