Chapter 881 - 588: Fish for Sheep
"Alright, don’t dwell on it! Although our speculations might have slight discrepancies from the actual truth, the overall direction is definitely not wrong!"
Zhang Yang waved his hand, effectively putting an end to Xiaoyi’s inquiry into the topic.
"Alright, thinking about it carefully, it does seem quite reasonable!" Xiaoyi nodded, also accepting Zhang Yang’s final explanation.
"Did you get footage of the whole process just now? Is there any part that needs additional shots?" Zhang Yang inquired about the actual business.
Xiaoyi shook his head, "No need, the footage from various angles is pretty much enough now! Why are you asking?"
Zhang Yang answered with a smile, "Caught the big fish, if there’s no need for extra footage, we still have some time before it gets dark at six. I won’t keep fishing but try to gather some chips to trade with the boss. I noticed the chickens roaming around in their yard look quite good!"
As the designated photographer, Xiaoyi understood immediately that Zhang Yang was planning to create some interesting video effects.
"Sure, that’s a good idea. Catch more fish of the right size and weight, then exchange them for the boss’s roaming chickens or something!"
Zhang Yang: "Let’s not waste time, let’s get to work!"
In the next few hours, Zhang Yang adjusted his fishing rhythm again, abandoning the deep water fishing strategy for large silver carp and bighead carp, and switched to mid-level fishing like Xiaowei and YOYO. With frequent baiting, during the afternoon to dusk window period, he experienced another frenzy of continuous catches.
There were forty-pound big fish, followed by continuous catches, leaving the reservoir owner, Lao Zheng, heartbroken. Although the fees weren’t low, the value of the fish caught was much higher, any calculation resulted in losses for him. This didn’t even account for the potential loss wherein Zhang Yang had managed to send off Xu Shao with a big fish.
Therefore, as soon as it hit six o’clock, Lao Zheng came over with his hands behind his back.
"Dear angler! Your fishing time is up! Xu Shao has already paid the fishing fees for you all, and the deadline is at six! It’ll be dark soon, and night fishing isn’t allowed in the reservoir! How about continuing tomorrow?"
Although Lao Zheng sounded polite, there was a hint of emotion that couldn’t be concealed in his tone.
Upon hearing the reservoir owner’s call, Zhang Yang put down his rod and stepped down from the fishing platform.
"Alright, understood, boss. We’re packing up now! Your reservoir’s fish resource is indeed impressive and phenomenal!"
"Continue tomorrow? I noticed you guys have baited quite a lot today, if you want to fish again tomorrow, just let me know in advance, and I’ll reserve the spot for you! If anyone else comes, I’ll ask them to pick another place!" Lao Zheng continued to ask.
Zhang Yang shook his head: "Not fishing anymore, I’ve had my fill! Caught the big ones and plenty of small ones too! By the way, would you like to buy back the fish we’ve caught?"
"I would! For silver carp and bighead carp, live fish over five pounds are three dollars a pound, over ten pounds is five dollars a pound! Weigh on site, settlement on the spot!"
Although Lao Zheng had some calculations, he still adhered to basic rules and offered Zhang Yang a buying price that was neither too high nor too low.
Lao Zheng had been mixed in the East Lake Reservoir for quite a while, and was very familiar with the fish vendors around. As long as the fish were of good quality, he could easily earn a profit of over two dollars difference per pound, which was a part of Lao Zheng’s income too.
"Only cash buybacks?"
Upon hearing this offer, Zhang Yang purposely showed a hesitant expression, his tone carrying a bit of disappointment.
"What do you mean by that? This fish buyback price is quite fair, on our side the market prices for silver carp and bighead carp are transparent, without much price discrepancy!"
Lao Zheng thought Zhang Yang was unhappy with the low price, so he proceeded to explain.
"Well, we didn’t catch too many fish, weighing by pounds, maybe let’s just forget about it. We’re fishing for self-media content creation, making money is secondary, mainly it’s for good program effects!" Zhang Yang continued to set the stage.
"Hmm? Do you have any ideas? If you need my cooperation, I can assist as much as possible!"
Lao Zheng somewhat caught on, thinking Zhang Yang wanted to engage him in some kind of act.
"How about a fish-for-goods exchange? When we had lunch earlier, I noticed there were roaming chickens and geese in the yard. Let’s simply calculate the value of the fish, then exchange for some of your farm-raised specialties like poultry or livestock, what do you think? Rest assured, I won’t let you lose out!"
Seeing the timing was right, Zhang Yang put forth his proposal.
"It’s doable, but let’s be clear beforehand, prices for my free-range roosters are relatively expensive in the market, don’t think I’m overcharging!"
Lao Zheng pondered a bit but did not refuse, instead he turned to Zhang Yang with a precautionary word.
The roaming chickens in the yard were meant to entertain customers, whether to cook on site or take away, there was no fundamental difference to Lao Zheng.
"Alright, your word is enough! Should we weigh the fish first? Do you need any preparation?"
"Finish packing your rods first, I’ll call a friend over to help! It’ll be quick afterward!"
"Great!"
After a simple discussion, Zhang Yang and his group started packing up the fishing equipment.
During daytime fishing, the various equipment was comfortable to use, but cleaning up and organizing were quite tedious. The three of them patiently tidied all the fishing rods and other gear, and then transferred everything to the car. By the time they finished, half an hour had gone by.
