Chapter 292: Mate calling
Chapter 292: Mate calling
Sebastian closed his eyes and forced the memory from his mind before turning off the shower spray. He stared at his reflection in the mirror, his dull silver eyes looking back at him, dark circles etched beneath them from exhaustion.
Sebastian was reaching for his robe when he felt a sudden stab in his chest. A restless feeling tightening around his heart and turning his stomach inside out. The feeling was not only foreign but strange enough to make him frown and grip his chest.
His lips pressed into a straight line. He was still recovering from the full moon’s effect and for at least a few more days, he and his twin were not supposed to have recovered enough to use their mind link or any other heightened senses. This was the curse of whoever carried the full Alpha blood, a battle they had fought their entire life.
Sebastian suddenly felt restless in a way he couldn’t pin to anything except the certainty that something wasn’t right. He tried to reach out to Matt through their link to check on his wife but then remembered that Muffin hadn’t recovered enough yet for the mind link, and until it was completely restored he would be dependent on his human form and senses alone.
His concern today was supposed to be simple, it was Alex’s turn to step out of here, and Sebastian needed to find a way to convince him to let him go again instead, without revealing that the reason was a woman he loved and wanted to return to. He let the uneasy feeling settle as best it could before he straightened up.
When Sebastian stepped out of the bathroom, Alex was already waiting on the other side, getting dressed and buttoning up his shirt. "Now fill me in on what I need to know when I step out as you. What has been happening in Silver? And what is it I need to know about this new Luna of yours? It’s about time I met her, don’t you think, dear twinny?" A smirk crossed his face and Sebastian’s jaw tightened immediately, knowing exactly what Alex meant.
"Stay the fuck away from my wife. Don’t even lay a finger on her." He gritted out before he could stop himself, and he cursed inwardly as he realized he was no longer very good at keeping his feelings for Viola out of things.
"Now isn’t this getting even more interesting? You’ve found a woman you actually care about, but unfortunately she won’t be breaking our curse, the last I remember, you told me she is wolfless. Just like Natalie wasn’t the one and she died after the mark, we won’t know if one of us doesn’t mark this one too." Alex said, tilting his head as he studied his brother’s grim expression.
"I am warning you. I have given you my promise that I will break our curse and cure your corrupted heart, Alex, and I will keep that promise, but I won’t let you hurt her. I mean it." Sebastian said calmly, fully aware that with every full moon Alex’s heart was declining further as it took everything they had to fight it, weakened further still by what had happened with Natalie. But that didn’t mean he would sacrifice his wife to find a quick cure.
Sebastian had tried everything to find the prophesied mate before the day came when he would have to switch with Alex again, but instead of finding her he had found a woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, and if remotely possible to have pups with, to build his own family, which was why he was working so hard to find the sea creature and use its heart to break the generational curse now rather than focus on the prophecy. But Alex still harbored too much bitterness toward him to hesitate when it came to his hellcat.
"Who said anything about hurting your wife, Seb? You are paranoid because you know it is exactly what you did to me, even after promising you wouldn’t. I miss my little sister and I can’t wait to step out of this hellhole and see her." Alex said, and was about to continue when he noticed Sebastian gripping his chest with a dark scowl cutting across his face.
"What’s wrong with you?" Alex arched a brow.
"Nothing." Sebastian lied, even when he knew it was far from nothing. Viola. He groaned her name through his mind as the feeling pressed harder against his chest. She needed him. Something was wrong back there.

Inside the first level underground dungeon of Silver, one couldn’t tell the time of day because of how completely sealed off everything was. Rather than natural light, LED lights burned against the whiteness of the place from wall to floor, and the sound of moaning and people in pain echoed through the halls. When there was no screaming, there was only the quiet, rhythmic sound of blood dripping from severed limbs onto the tiled floor.
The cells were not barred doors but electric iron doors that required a special security system for entry. Behind one of these silver colored iron doors sat two women tied to electric chairs with harsh lights burning down over their heads.
Viola tried to move but the aches and the impossibly tight binds around her wrists, tied behind the chair, and her legs bound against it made any movement remotely impossible.
"What do you mean, Mom?" came Laila’s voice from where she had been untied and brought to speak with her mother at the door.
Viola watched them exhaustedly. They hadn’t been fed or given any water, and so far they had only been whipped once. She knew this wasn’t the full extent of the punishment carried out on this level, and that the worst was still yet to come, but she still held on to the hope that something would happen to stop the worst from reaching them.
Even now, despite everything, she found herself hoping that someone or something would intervene before it was too late.
