Chapter 530: Too Comfortable
Chapter 530: Too Comfortable
But Jiang Ran herself had long passed this age.
Jiang Ran retracted her gaze, ready to bike back home.
Today the sky was overcast, still looking like it might rain.
She should head back early, so she won’t get caught in the rain.
Jiang Ran was quite lucky.
While biking back, it didn’t rain.
Just as she got home and parked the bike, the rain began to fall softly.
Watching the fine rain threads, Jiang Ran let out a long breath.
Fortunately, she returned quickly enough, avoiding the rain.
Pei Jing, Pei Shanshan, and Pei Yang were not at home, only Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan were there.
Pei Baoshan had recently taken a liking to reading. He would leisurely go through the dictionary, page by page, to learn words.
Although it’s not a very clever method and not very fast, it’s a good way to pass the time.
Not only does it pass the time, but if done seriously, once all the words in the dictionary are memorized, reading and writing would no longer be a problem.
One cannot do nothing just because they’re getting old.
Instead, as age creeps up and children have grown up, no longer needing to bear the burdens of life, one can find things to do for themselves.
Wang Cuilan wasn’t much interested in reading; she had taken a liking to making clothes.
Wang Cuilan already knew how to make clothes but initially didn’t know how to use a sewing machine.
But since there had been a sewing machine at home for so long, she learned to use it.
After Pei Jing went to school and she had nothing to do, she started making clothes.
After Jiang Ran drew the designs, she would start cutting and sewing according to the measurements.
Although the process was slow, the craftsmanship was excellent, and she could make two pieces a day if done leisurely.
Jiang Ran didn’t let her make too many.
Jiang Ran allowed Wang Cuilan to do it, just to prevent her from getting bored, giving her something to occupy herself with.
If she got tired because of it, it wouldn’t be worth it.
When Jiang Ran returned, Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan were both inside the house.
One was reading by the window, the other was at the sewing machine.
They didn’t disturb each other but would stop to chat a bit now and then.
After chatting briefly with them, Jiang Ran stepped out and returned to her room.
She lit a stick of incense, brewed a pot of tea, and sat under the porch, turning the pages of a thick medical book, feeling a surge of satisfaction and safety.
Jiang Ran lay back on the recliner, which was wooden but topped with a thick cushion.
When lying on it, it felt like sinking into the cushion, not feeling the cold at all.
As it was raining, Jiang Ran had a blanket over her.
She would turn a few pages of the book, then take a sip of tea.
Or she would pause to watch the fine rain outside, feeling utterly relaxed.
Compared to yesterday’s awkwardness, today was what life should be.
Jiang Ran grew so at ease that she dozed off while reading.
When she woke up, the fine rain still fell, and from the light, it was hard to tell what time it was.
Jiang Ran raised her wrist to check the time on her watch, realizing it was already past eleven.
It was time to make lunch.
Jiang Ran moved slightly, thinking of preparing something to eat.
But just as she moved, she caught a whiff of fragrance.
Just from the aroma, Jiang Ran knew Wang Cuilan was cooking.
Getting up from the recliner, Jiang Ran headed to the kitchen along the porch.
