Chapter 56 A Clash of Fates
Chapter 56 A Clash of Fates
The auction hall was brightly lit, and elegantly dressed guests chatted and laughed. Lin Chuyue and Gu Yanchuan walked along the edge of the hall, seemingly oblivious to the surrounding noise and luxury. Lin Chuyue's gaze swept warily over every corner, and she asked in a low voice, "Are you sure Shen Fang will make a move at this auction?"
Gu Yanchuan nodded, a thoughtful look in his eyes. "Shen Fang's cash flow has been cut off for so many days, she must be anxious to find a way. The asset management company behind this auction is one of the suspicious points we've identified."
Lin Chuyue nodded slightly and said in a deep voice, "If this scheme can really catch Shen Fang, that would be even better. However..." She paused for a moment, "You said Li Zhanchuan will come, but what is his purpose?"
Gu Yanchuan paused slightly, his voice low, "Zhan Chuan is not the type to easily get involved in these kinds of things. The fact that he contacted me first is most likely not just to 'help' me."
As the two were talking, the auction began in the center. The host's enthusiastic voice echoed in the hall: "Next up is an extremely rare blue diamond brooch, crafted by a master craftsman of the 19th century..."
Lin Chuyue's gaze unconsciously fell upon the guests in the room, quickly locking onto a familiar figure. Li Zhanchuan, the man who had left a deep impression on her, was sitting in the VIP section not far away. He was wearing a dark, custom-made suit, his expression cold and stern, his eyes focused intently on the items being auctioned on the stage, as if he were in the midst of a one-man show.
"He's here," Lin Chuyue whispered, her tone tinged with wariness.
Gu Yanchuan followed her gaze, his eyes turning slightly cold. "Zhan Chuan's purpose has never been simple."
The auction continued, but Lin Chuyue couldn't help but glance at Li Zhanchuan every now and then. This man exuded a contradictory aura, appearing both composed and ready to act at any moment.
Finally, Li Zhanchuan seemed to notice their presence. He slowly stood up and walked towards them. Lin Chuyue straightened her back slightly, secretly wondering about his intentions.
“Yan Chuan, Miss Lin.” Li Zhanchuan’s voice was deep and magnetic, carrying an inexplicable sense of pressure. He stopped in front of the two of them, nodded slightly, and said in a calm tone, “The ‘chance encounter’ at the auction was truly unexpected.”
Gu Yanchuan looked at him coldly and said calmly, "Zhanchuan, your accidents are never coincidences. Tell me, what's the reason this time?"
Li Zhanchuan's gaze swept over Lin Chuyue, paused for a second, and then said, "I'm here to remind Miss Lin that this auction is not just a trading platform, but also a game of probing."
Lin Chuyue sneered, her gaze sharp. "Mr. Li's reminders are truly ubiquitous, but I don't know if it's out of concern or ulterior motives."
Li Zhanchuan gave a faint smile, his gaze calm as still water. "Miss Lin is very vigilant, which is good. But sometimes, knowing too much is not necessarily a good thing."
Gu Yanchuan frowned, his tone cold, "Zhanchuan, if you have nothing else to say, you don't need to keep 'reminding' me."
Li Zhanchuan smiled nonchalantly and nodded slightly, "Then I won't bother you any longer."
After the auction ended, a waiter in uniform hurriedly caught up with the two and handed a note to Gu Yanchuan.
Gu Yanchuan unfolded the slip of paper, and a few short lines of text came into view: "Target locked, Donghai Company, fourth round of bidding."
Lin Chuyue peeked out and frowned slightly, "This is..."
Gu Yanchuan looked at the handwriting, his expression changing slightly. "It's Li Zhanchuan's handwriting. His clue."
"Why would he give us a clue?" Lin Chuyue asked, puzzled. "Logically, he should be on Shen Fang's side."
“Perhaps Shen Fang is no longer of value in his plan.” Gu Yanchuan’s tone was tinged with coldness. “But whatever his purpose may be, we must treat this information with caution.”
The two quickly left the meeting and went to the office to retrieve information and investigate "Donghai Company".
Meanwhile, in another luxurious private room, Li Zhanchuan picked up a glass of red wine, his expression calm. His assistant stood ramrod straight beside him and whispered, "Sir, the information has been passed to Gu Yanchuan and Lin Chuyue, and they will take action soon."
"Very good." Li Zhanchuan took a small sip of wine, his voice indifferent. "They will take care of Shen Fang, this troublesome person, for me."
"But if they find out too much, won't it affect our subsequent plans?" the assistant asked cautiously.
Li Zhanchuan chuckled, his gaze turning cold. "No. The closer they get to the truth, the more convenience they can provide for me. The scheme behind Shen Fang is too small; I'm already tired of it. This game should have a bigger opponent to make it more interesting."
The assistant bowed his head in agreement, but felt a strange chill in his heart.
