Nirvana Heiress: Reborn and Returning to Stir Up a Storm

Chapter 119 Breaking the Ice

Chapter 119 Breaking the Ice

The banquet was drawing to a close, and guests were gradually taking their leave. Lin Chuyue stood in a corner of the banquet hall, her brows slightly furrowed, her thoughts churning like a tide. She knew that tonight was not just a collaboration with Li Zhanchuan, but also a significant turning point in her life.

"Chuyue, how was your evening?" Li Zhanchuan walked to her side, his deep voice breaking her reverie.

Lin Chuyue looked up at him, her eyes clear. "Not bad, thank you for keeping me company tonight." Despite her words, a hint of weariness lingered in her gaze. Tonight, she faced not only superficial social obligations, but also the emotions and plans hidden deep within her heart.

Li Zhanchuan seemed to sense her fatigue and softened his tone: "If you need to rest, we can go back first. You've finished what you needed to do tonight; now it's my turn to handle things."

"Thank you." Lin Chuyue smiled slightly and nodded in agreement.

She turned to walk towards the exit. Just then, Gu Yanchuan reappeared in her sight. He stood not far away, his brows furrowed, his gaze fixed on her. Lin Chuyue knew that although their engagement had been dissolved, his concern for her had not completely disappeared.

She stopped, her gaze falling lightly on Gu Yanchuan's face, and paused slightly. "Gu Yanchuan," she called softly, her tone calm, as if she were merely greeting an ordinary business partner.

Gu Yanchuan slowly walked up to her, his eyes deep, as if he wanted to say something but held back. He glanced at Li Zhanchuan beside her, his brows furrowing slightly, but finally spoke: "Chuyue, you look very different tonight."

Lin Chuyue chuckled lightly, a hint of coldness in her eyes: "What do you mean?" She didn't directly respond to his praise, but asked bluntly.

Gu Yanchuan's eyes flashed, seemingly stung by her words, yet he was powerless to refute them. "You've become more independent and calm," he said.

Lin Chuyue did not respond, but simply nodded: "Thank you for the compliment." Her words were brief and direct, clearly indicating that she did not intend to have an in-depth conversation with Gu Yanchuan that evening.

Li Zhanchuan observed everything from the side and said calmly, "President Gu, tonight's banquet was a great success. Thank you for your previous support." His tone was calm, but carried a hint of ulterior motive.

Gu Yanchuan turned his gaze to Li Zhanchuan, a flash of coldness crossing his eyes. Clearly, he didn't fully trust this person who had once cooperated with Lin Chuyue.

"Mr. Li, it's nothing." Gu Yanchuan nodded slightly, his tone calm, yet carrying a subtle hint of hostility. He turned and glanced at Lin Chuyue, finally saying only, "Are you leaving?"

Lin Chuyue looked at Gu Yanchuan with a calm expression: "Yes, there are still some things to take care of." After saying that, she and Li Zhanchuan walked out of the banquet hall side by side.

Back in the car, Lin Chuyue remained mostly silent. Noticing her silence, Li Zhanchuan spoke softly, "Are you still thinking about Gu Yanchuan?"

Lin Chuyue paused slightly, then turned her gaze to the neon lights outside the window: "No, I'm thinking about the next steps. We've come this far, we can't back down now."

Li Zhanchuan didn't ask any further questions. He knew that Lin Chuyue understood her goals better than anyone else. He smiled slightly, his eyes firm: "Are you ready to face the challenge?"

Lin Chuyue nodded, her gaze unwavering: "This is just the beginning. I will personally take every step from here on out."

It was late at night, and Lin Chuyue stood by her bedroom window, gazing at the city lights in the distance. Her emotions were still not completely calm. Although she had already decided how to proceed, she still couldn't shake off the image of Gu Yanchuan.

She knew that Gu Yanchuan had once held an important place in her heart. Although their engagement had been dissolved, those past feelings remained deeply buried within her. She dared not deny that, in this silent struggle, she might still harbor some lingering affection for him, even though she no longer depended on that relationship.

However, Lin Chuyue knew that if she wanted to truly break free from Gu Yanchuan and take that first step towards independence, she had to completely sever ties with the past. She took a deep breath, slowly closed her eyes, and told herself, "Everything will pass."

Meanwhile, in his office, Gu Yanchuan's fingers tapped unconsciously on the desk, his eyes fixed on the documents, but his thoughts were already far away. At tonight's banquet, though he appeared calm on the surface, his heart was in turmoil. Lin Chuyue's changes made him uneasy; he wasn't sure if he had missed something, or if the unspoken feelings in his heart had truly been completely let go by her.

"Chuyue, do you really not need me anymore?" he murmured to himself, his brows furrowed.

However, Gu Yanchuan knew very well that no matter how much his heart trembled, the bridge between him and Lin Chuyue had been completely severed. She had reached a height that he could no longer reach, and it was impossible for him to win her back.
