Chapter 157: Not even a minor character
The stars were scattered across the dark night sky, and a waning crescent moon, gleaming faintly, added a touch of light to the dim space.
Yan San leaned against the wall with his eyes closed. His figure looked very thin in the darkness. His white shirt and dark hair fluttered in the evening breeze, and the wind messed up his hair, adding a touch of wildness to his appearance.
His brows furrowed slightly, clearly another headache was acting up.
"Major Yan, you're really in high spirits, coming up here to enjoy the evening breeze in this cold weather?"
A crisp sound suddenly made Yan San open his eyes. His deep, dark pupils snapped open, and a fleeting glint of light appeared.
Seeing Xi Yu walk up to him without him noticing, Yan San wasn't surprised. Instead, he smiled and said, "My head hurts. Coming up here to get some fresh air will make me feel better."
He stated the reason without any attempt to hide it, which made Xi Yu glance at him again.
Xi Yu did indeed sense the unusual fluctuations in mental energy, which is why she came up to check, and sure enough, she found him.
She quietly assessed Yan San's condition and realized that his mental state was just unstable, not as serious as during the previous riot, so she felt relieved.
In fact, Yan San was the person with the strongest endurance she had ever seen. If anyone else had been tormented by such powerful mental strength for more than 20 years, they would probably have committed suicide to escape it long ago.
Based on this alone, Xi Yu admired him quite a bit.
She thought for a moment, then walked straight to his side, casually sat down on the ground, leaned against the wall, and looked up at the sky.
Yan San was slightly taken aback when he saw this, but he quickly realized what she meant and followed her actions, sitting down on the ground.
"Are you satisfied with life here?" he asked.
Xi Yu closed her eyes and replied indifferently, "Very boring."
With her limited knowledge, she couldn't learn much in a place like this. Fortunately, there was the virtual combat aviation research, which she looked forward to most during the evening virtual classes.
Yan San chuckled upon hearing her answer: "Military academy cadets have to go on a mission under supervision every six months, so it won't be boring then."
Xi Yu still didn't show much interest upon hearing this. Wouldn't she be given even fewer tasks in the future?
"Six months from now, there will be a Level 1 mission to explore unknown territories. Only five spots will be available for military academy cadets, regardless of age," Yan San added.
"Oh?" Unknown territory? Xi Yu perked up. In her previous life, her favorite missions were to explore uncharted star systems and go on adventures. The mission Yan San mentioned was indeed very much to her liking.
Moreover, the mission does not restrict the age of the trainees, which means that she, as a freshman, also has a chance.
Seeing those clear, clean eyes light up instantly, a soft look flashed across Yan San's eyes.
Once the conversation started, it went much more smoothly. Xi Yu stretched her legs and leaned lazily against the wall: "Speaking of which, why did you come here to be an instructor? With your rank of major, there are probably a lot of missions waiting for you in the legion."
The implication was that she didn't believe any orders from headquarters.
"It was indeed a task assigned by my superiors." Yan San shook his head, continuing his lie to the end, and added at the end, "Also, I want to experience what it's like to be an instructor."
Xi Yu immediately retorted without holding back: "Come on, with your teaching methods, you're not even worthy of being called a superfluous instructor!"
