Chapter 48 The Calm After the Storm
Chapter 48 The Calm After the Storm
Three months later, at the hospital.
Sunlight streamed through the window, falling onto the pristine white sheets and illuminating Xie Shiyun's pale face.
Today is the day she is discharged from the hospital, but her feelings are unusually complicated.
Ever since that man seemingly protected her under the guise of concern, but in her eyes it felt more like imprisonment. And today, that man has appeared before her again.
Xie Shiyun sat quietly on the edge of the bed, her eyes somewhat vacant. When she saw the figure appear at the door, a strange emotion welled up inside her.
The man slowly walked into the ward, half-squatted down, gently touched her head, and whispered, "A-Yun, let's go home."
These words seemed to possess a certain magic, causing Xie Shiyun's heart to beat faster.
She looked up at the man who was both familiar and unfamiliar to her, a hint of confusion and bewilderment flashing in her eyes.
Home? For her, that word has become so distant.
The warmth and peace of the past are long gone, replaced by endless pain and torment.
However, she couldn't refuse the man's words. Perhaps, this was fate's arrangement.
She silently stood up and followed the man out of the hospital.
Neither of them spoke the rest of the way, and a sense of oppression filled the air.
Xie Shiyun gazed at the scenery rushing past the window, his mind filled with countless thoughts.
Finally, the car stopped in front of a luxurious villa. Xie Shiyun got out of the car, looked up at the once-familiar house, and was filled with mixed emotions.
The man opened the door and gestured for her to come in.
Xie Shiyun hesitated for a moment, then stepped inside. Everything in the room seemed unchanged, except for a sense of desolation and loneliness.
The man walked to the sofa and sat down, his gaze falling on Xie Shiyun. After a moment of silence, he said, "Everything here is still the same as before, and we are all still here."
"Things have changed, but people are no longer the same," she said quietly.
Xie Shiyun lowered her head, a bitter smile on her face. Could she still believe such a promise?
But at this moment, she had nowhere to go.
In the days that followed, Xie Shiyun began to readjust to this "home." Although she was still filled with unease and fear, she tried her best to be strong.
And the man, just as he said, showed Xie Shiyun great care.
He would eat and chat with her every day, and occasionally take her for a walk.
However, at that moment, an unexpected person appeared...
An uninvited guest arrived.
A woman
"You mean, he's planning to target the Fu family?" In the living room, a woman sat next to Xie Shiyun, while Fu Shiyue sat on the sofa opposite them. The woman was heavily pregnant, supporting her lower back with her hand and stroking her belly, her face filled with worry.
“Eivis keeps making mistakes, getting deeper and deeper into the wrong path without realizing it. I’m afraid he’ll sink even further and eventually commit crimes, and by then it will be too late,” Anna said sadly, her eyes filled with worry and helplessness. She stroked her belly, seemingly hoping to bring some comfort to her baby.
Just then, the baby in her belly suddenly moved, as if sensing the mother's emotions, and kicked gently.
This brought Anna a pleasant surprise and temporarily relieved her worries. She lowered her head, looking tenderly at her belly, her eyes filled with maternal love.
"This little guy is quite mischievous!" Anna said with a smile, her mood improving slightly.
However, her worries about Eivis remained. She knew that Eivis's mistake could bring endless trouble to herself and her family, but she couldn't easily sever ties with them.
Fu Shiyue listened quietly to Anna's words, his brows furrowing slightly. He understood that Anna's concerns were not unfounded, but at present they did not have conclusive evidence that Eivis would actually target the Fu family.
Fu Shiling made a move, and that day finally arrived...
“It seems my previous guess was right. His ambition can no longer sustain him. He probably wants more…” Fu Shiyue said calmly. “If he really has some ulterior motive, we can’t just sit and wait to die.”
Anna nodded in agreement. She hoped to find a way to resolve the issue that would both protect the Fu Group and save Eivis. After all, Eivis was family, and she didn't want to see him in trouble.
In this tense moment, Anna was filled with conflict and struggle. She worried about Eivis's future while also caring for her unborn child. She knew that, no matter what, she had to be strong and face life's challenges.
It's telling you, Mom, don't be sad, I'm here with you...
"You're Fu Shiling's man, why should I believe what you say? Isn't this a trap you deliberately set?" The man sat on the sofa, his face so gloomy it seemed like it could drip water, his dark eyes coldly staring at the woman in front of him.
Fu Shiyue certainly knew this woman named Anna; he and Fu Shiling had known each other since their time in Australia. Moreover, as far as he knew, they had been together for a long time, but he didn't know why they hadn't made their relationship public.
Now that she has suddenly appeared here and brought such news, one can't help but wonder about her motives.
“I tried to persuade him before, but he wouldn’t listen. He’s not the Evis I know anymore. I’m really afraid something will happen to him, so I came to you for help…” Anna’s voice grew softer and softer until it was almost a whisper. Her head drooped low as she finished speaking, as if she couldn’t bear the pressure and shame in her heart.
Xie Shiyun looked at Anna quietly, a complex emotion welling up inside him.
She remembered her previous encounter with Anna, the one where she bumped into her at the restaurant. The scene in the restaurant flashed through Xie Shiyun's mind; she remembered that moment.
Then I added her contact information, but now the situation has become so tricky that it makes me feel helpless and confused.
“I met this lady at the restaurant before, and it was through him that I got close to her, because she is the most important person to Mr. Fu, he…” Anna’s voice was tinged with bitterness and self-blame.
Anna looked up and met Xie Shiyun's gaze, her eyes flashing with embarrassment.
It turns out that all of this was planned by Evis. He used Anna to get close to Xie Shiyun, simply because she was the most important person to Fu Shiyue. By getting close to her, he might be able to achieve his own goals.
Hearing this, Xie Shiyun felt a chill run down her spine; she was terrified. "How could he do this? He wouldn't even spare the person he loves! This is insane!" Xie Shiyun exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief. She couldn't comprehend how someone could be so cruel, even putting their beloved in danger.
However, Fu Shiyue maintained his calm and indifferent expression. He slowly said, "If things are truly as we suspect, then the two of you must be extremely careful. In the days to come, I suggest you stay together and try not to act separately. This will increase your safety and ensure you are not picked off one by one."
Xie Shiyun nodded, indicating that she understood.
She said to Anna, "Don't worry, for your and the baby's safety these next few days, you stay here. He'll handle the rest."
Anna nodded and stroked her belly.
Actually, not long ago, Anna, who was heavily pregnant, went to see Fu Shiling. She knew where he worked, so she went directly to his company.
As she walked into that magnificent office building, she was filled with nervousness and unease.
Finally, she found Fu Shiling's office. The moment she pushed open the door, she saw that familiar yet unfamiliar man.
Fu Shiling sat at his desk, looking at her with a cold gaze.
When she appeared before him, Fu Shiling's eyes widened instantly, speechless with shock. He stared blankly at her protruding belly, his mind a complete blank. He had never imagined he would have a child; this sudden reality left him at a loss.
But soon, his expression returned to calm, as if his surprise had been just a fleeting illusion.
"What are you doing here?" Fu Shiling's voice was cold and ruthless, devoid of any emotion.
“Eivis, you can’t do these illegal things! You’ll go to jail! Do you want my child to be without a father?” Anna cried, looking at him with despair and pain in her eyes. Her tears flowed like a burst dam, dripping onto the ground and splashing into tiny flowers.
Her words made Fu Shiling's heart sink. He frowned and fell into deep thought. He knew that everything he had done was for revenge, to make those who had hurt him pay the price.
“There’s no going back. I’ve already come this far, it’s impossible…” He said coldly, head down, focused on the documents in his hands. “Elvis, it’s not too late. If you had cut your losses in time, things wouldn’t be like this…”
Before she could finish speaking, he rudely interrupted her. "Enough! Why can't even you believe I can do it? Only if I do it will you and the child have a good life forever." He raised his head, his eyes firm and cold, seemingly full of confidence in his decision.
"Once I get everything back that belongs to me, no one will look down on us anymore, and we'll be able to turn things around immediately."
"you....."
"It's nothing. You should go back and rest during your pregnancy. Don't meddle here."
Anna snapped out of her reverie, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside her. She shook her head helplessly, as if trying to shake those thoughts from her mind. She sighed deeply, a faint sadness in her eyes.
She recalled the days they spent together in Australia, an unforgettable time. Although life wasn't perfect, their time together was always filled with laughter. With Eivis by her side, they shared many beautiful moments, every detail deeply etched in her memory.
However, everything has changed now. The passage of time has taken away the warmth of the past, leaving only endless longing and regret.
Anna knows that the beautiful past can never be relived, but she still hopes to preserve those precious memories and let them become the most valuable treasure in the depths of her heart.
Perhaps it is because that time was so beautiful that the separation is so painful now, but in any case, Anna will always remember those happy moments and cherish the happiness she once had.
Even though the future is full of unknowns, she will face it with strength and continue to move forward.
