Chapter 59 A Kind-Looking but Ruthless Wife at Home
Chapter 59 A Kind-Looking but Ruthless Wife at Home
A gentle breeze carrying a soft whisper drifted into my ears.
The man turned and stopped, the crimson hem of his robe tracing a slight arc. The bright red color perfectly complemented his jade-like face. He didn't resemble a king; rather, he looked more like a refined and noble young master from a prominent family.
Wen Yan disregarded etiquette and lifted the veil herself, her eyes still moist, her tone cautious.
"Your Highness, is there anything I have done wrong?"
Meeting her watery eyes, Wei Jiqing suddenly recalled the rumors circulating in the city, such as Minister Wen helping his concubine rise to a higher position, and her brows furrowed slightly.
He didn't believe a single word of those words.
He survived to this age under the cruel treatment of his stepmother, who even ruined her reputation...
His crown princess is no ordinary woman.
Wei Jiqing's eyes turned cold, and he said indifferently, "No, Miss Wen, please come with me first."
He took the lead and walked forward, not caring that Wen Yan's improper lifting of the veil was against the rules.
Wen Yan followed quietly.
This is a tricky situation. In just half a month, the Crown Prince will "die suddenly during his southern tour." She needs to find a way to turn the tide.
But Wei Jiqing doesn't believe her at all right now, so how could she possibly do as she says?
Headache.
Wen Yan rummaged through the treasure vault and finally found the box in a dusty corner. This was the trick to gain his trust as quickly as possible.
As the sun set, Wei Jiqing staggered as he slowly pushed open the door, his cheeks flushed, clearly drunk.
"You all get down."
The maids serving around him bowed their heads and left the room.
Wei Jiqing's eyes regained their clarity, and only after confirming that the wine was not poisoned did she lift the veil.
With no obstructions in front of me, my view was finally much clearer.
Wen Yan's gaze followed Wei Jiqing closely as he poured two glasses of wine, stood up to take the wine glass handed to him, and her fingertips unintentionally brushed against his fingers, a wisp of white smoke slipping into his body.
After finishing their drinks, the two put down their glasses.
"Wen Xiao..."
[We've already shared a toast, why are you still calling me Miss Wen?]
Wei Jiqing's words faltered on his lips as he stared intently at Wen Yan's pursed lips.
Was he hallucinating?
[He was quite handsome; it would be a shame if he died.]
"Wen...is the Crown Princess speaking to me?"
Wen Yan was surprised: "I did not make a sound."
[You're so young and already have tinnitus?]
Wei Jiqing quickly concealed the shock in her eyes and passively accepted the fact that she could hear her thoughts.
"It was Gu Huan who heard it."
His eyes inadvertently swept over the nuptial wine on the table.
"What does the Crown Princess think of this nuptial wine?"
"The aroma is rich and the taste is complex; the Prince's wine is truly top-notch." The answer was impeccable.
Wei Jiqing said no more, and after taking a bath, he and Wen Yan lay down on the bed together.
He turned his head to look at her.
Wen Yan pulled the blanket over half her face, her face flushed with shyness.
In reality, I was chilled to the bone by my own calm. [A little sleepy, a little hungry, damn it, why isn't he asleep yet? If you're going to do something, just do it! All this hesitant, half-hearted stuff is such a hassle.]
Wei Jiqing had never spoken so bluntly before. He silently turned his head and said, "It's late, let's rest."
[What kind of rest? How am I supposed to know whether I should seduce or sleep if you don't tell me clearly...] Wen Yan went crazy again.
Wei Jiqing added, "Today's affairs are too complicated, let's discuss the wedding night another day."
He could clearly feel the hand that had been close to him under the blanket quickly withdraw. When he looked at her again, she obediently pulled off the blanket covering half of her face, glanced at him once and then looked away, her brows furrowed with a hint of loneliness.
[Since you won't sleep with me, then let's go to sleep.]
If we ignore the raw and untamed feelings in people's hearts.
The two closed their eyes and lay upright. Wen Yan finally couldn't hold on any longer and her breathing gradually became even.
Wei Jiqing stared blankly at the red canopy above his head. The situation at court was tense. He had just been dismissed from his post, and his wife offered no help whatsoever. He feared that things would only get more difficult in the future.
Well, at least the person next to me isn't an informant for either side, which is a blessing in disguise.
The next day, Wen Yan was woken up by her biological clock. She turned her head and saw Wei Jiqing getting dressed. She lifted the covers and got out of bed in one smooth motion. She naturally took the folded outer robe and put it on him, saying in a soft voice, "Your Highness should wake me up." Her hands continued to move.
[When will I ever be able to sleep until I naturally wake up? Luckily, the young master has a handsome face, otherwise waking up to see an ugly man would ruin my good mood.]
With a gentle smile, Wen Yan softly instructed, "Your Highness, please remember to wake me next time you wake up." She carefully smoothed out the wrinkles on her clothes, "I will only feel at ease if I personally see Your Highness off."
Wen Yan didn't need his reply. She finished speaking on her own and tied the white jade belt around his waist, making his figure appear even taller and more slender.
"Please wait a moment, Your Highness. After I have washed and dressed, I will accompany my husband to the palace to express my gratitude."
Wei Jiqing nodded slightly and left, secretly taking the nuptial wine from the table with him.
While waiting for someone, he summoned a trusted confidant and had him pour a cup of wine.
Bai Xu took the wine, completely bewildered, but at Wei Jiqing's instruction, he drank it all.
"How are you feeling?" Wei Jiqing asked.
"It's...delicious?" Bai Xu asked blankly. "Your Highness, if I'm not mistaken, this is a nuptial wine bar?"
Wei Jiqing remained silent, holding his breath for a moment, but heard nothing.
He didn't give up, and drank two more cups, handing one to Bai Xu and keeping the other for himself.
“Yes, this is the nuptial wine for me and the Crown Princess.” He then raised his hand and placed it on top of Bai Xu’s. “Perhaps the method was incorrect.”
Bai Xu looked at the two of them and felt increasingly awkward in their posture, hesitating to speak several times.
Having no other choice, he drank the wine with a gesture of exchanging cups, his expression quite strange.
Wei Jiqing slowed his breathing and focused his mind again, but still no sound came out.
"Your Highness, I am already married." Bai Xu mustered his courage. "My child is old enough to run errands."
The man eating the fly had the words "We're not a good match" written all over his face.
Wei Jiqing choked, not knowing how to explain, and could only tell him to leave with a stern face.
Bai Xu fled at the fastest speed he had ever seen, managing to evade Wei Jiqing for three months. But that's another story.
Wei Jiqing then tried several more people, but still failed, and finally gave up.
It seems this was just an accident.
After estimating that it was about time, he got up and walked towards the front door, where the carriage was already prepared.
[I need to hurry up and get some gold and silver jewelry so that I can at least live a happy life for a while after the person dies.] Wen Yan sat in the carriage, carefully calculating.
Wei Jiqing, without changing his expression, lifted the curtain and sat down, asking the person opposite him, "Does Madam think I have a long lifespan?"
Wen Yan respectfully replied, "Your Highness is blessed with good fortune and will surely live to be a hundred years old."
[Yeah, right. You'll be killed by Wei Yanlin in half a month.]
Wei Jiqing's expression changed slightly, and his clear eyes turned cold, like spring water that had just frozen in winter, clear and chilling.
Wen Yan noticed the change and hurriedly explained, "I am foolish and do not know where I am wrong?"
[This person is really hard to please, but I'll just have to put up with it for a few more days.]
Wei Jiqing blatantly lied: "I once met a fortune teller who said I wouldn't live past this year."
Wen Yan was shocked: "The words of fortune tellers cannot be trusted. There are many charlatans in the world. The Crown Prince is destined to live a long life. This is the will of Heaven."
That fortune teller was quite accurate.
"I have been feeling uneasy lately, often worrying that your words will come true. If I am indeed nearing my end, is there any way to resolve this?"
"Your Highness is overthinking it. You are a person blessed by Heaven, and the Black and White Demons would not dare to come looking for you."
[There is a way to resolve this: eliminate the traitors within the party and absolutely refuse the southern tour.]
Wei Jiqing closed his eyes to rest, and it was unclear how much he believed.
