Chapter 145 Something strange was discovered
Bai Wuyou sighed, "So what are your plans for the future?"
"I heard that Doctor Han and my princess's Doctor Yu had a very pleasant conversation," Gu Liang said. "Why don't you go and join in the fun?"
Bai Wuyou muttered, "I don't like my wife."
Gu Liang hummed in response, turned to look at him, and took two steps back.
“I like poison,” Bai Wuyou explained. “I’m not interested in anything else.”
Gu Liang nodded and said, "I understand, I understand."
noon.
White doves occasionally fluttered overhead.
Jiang Zhi sat on his horse, looking up at his surroundings, while Gu Liang rode alongside him.
“They’re not carrier pigeons,” he said to Jiang Zhi. “The further north you go, the more common the pigeons will be in the sky. When we get to Chong’an Prefecture, I’ll take you to see even more flocks of pigeons.”
Jiang Zhi lowered his hand from the sun. "When does Your Highness plan to return to the capital?"
"I will stay in Chong'an Prefecture for two days and then set off back."
Jiang Zhi smiled enigmatically, "Your Highness claimed to be in seclusion for training, but it was all just a pretext to secretly go to Chong'an Prefecture?"
He had always wanted her to leave the capital with him, but he never mentioned going to Chong'an Prefecture.
Jiang Zhi raised an eyebrow. "Your Highness must have planned this all along."
"The guards told me that we will be stopping at a village tonight. Your Highness, please rest early tonight," Jiang Zhi said.
They had been traveling for the past few days, and Gu Liang stayed with her, but he always didn't rest until late at night.
Gu Liang listened to her words and looked at her. "Oh, you've learned to care about people now?"
Jiang Zhi turned his head and said, "A piece of cake."
Her way of showing care for people was indeed somewhat unconventional, but Gu Liang gradually got used to it.
He turned his head to look at her and chuckled softly.
Dusk was approaching.
The group arrived at the village entrance, where a man who looked to be in his thirties was squatting by the roadside. Hearing the sound of carriages and horses, he raised his eyelids.
Jiaoyue stepped forward and greeted him politely, "Brother, is this Green Willow Village?"
The man responded in a gruff voice.
"We'd like to stay here tonight. Is there anyone who would like to stay?" Jiaoyue continued to ask.
The man looked them over carefully. "There's not enough room. There are too many people."
Jiaoyue glanced back at Gu Liang, then turned to the man and said, "Just find an empty room for my master and mistress; you don't need to worry about the rest of us."
When the man saw Jiang stop the carriage, his eyes lit up and he quickly stood up.
Jiang Zhi brushed her hair aside.
The man coughed twice. "Then let's make it clear first: there's only one empty room. The rest of you can just find somewhere cool and go."
He led Jiang Zhi and Gu Liang into the village.
Although the village is located in a remote area, it is built in a clean and tidy manner, with more than a dozen households lined up along the village road, and even an ancestral hall built at the end of the village.
The man stood in front of the door, pushed it open, and said, "You can stay at my house for now."
In the courtyard, a simply dressed woman heard the sound and looked over in a panic.
"What are you looking at!" the man shouted. "Someone has come to stay for the night, you'd better hurry up and tidy up the house!"
The woman's clothes were somewhat disheveled, and her eyes were slightly red. She didn't say anything when she heard this, but just glanced at the man awkwardly before quickly going to tidy up the house.
The man turned to the two guards following Gu Liang and Jiang Zhi, pointed at them, and said, "They can't stay here, but they can eat here."
Gu Liang took Jiang Zhi's wrist, smiled and said, "We have prepared food, so there's no need to trouble your family."
He led Jiang Zhi into the house.
Jiang Zhi subconsciously looked around.
The house was quite nice; it was clean and tidy, with tea sets on the table, a picture of the God of Longevity hanging on the wall, and several potted plants in the corner, which added a touch of charm.
"Is your village chief here?" Gu Liang asked the man.
The man was taken aback. "What do you want with our village chief?"
When passing through Jizhou, Gu Liang said, "Someone asked me to deliver a letter to him."
The man waved his hand, "The village chief isn't here. He went to Chong'an Prefecture, and his whole family left."
Gu Liang nodded and turned to Jiang Zhi, saying, "Since this is your first time here, would you like to visit some of the villages?"
Before Jiang Zhi could speak, the man said in a rough voice, "It's getting dark, and there's nothing much to see in this village. Don't frighten the woman."
As soon as he finished speaking, the woman from the courtyard walked to the door and whispered to the man, "The house is all ready, you can move in now."
Her eyes seemed even redder than before.
The man glared at her and clicked his tongue, "How can you be so clueless? Hurry up and pour water for the guests."
The woman trembled slightly and repeatedly said, "Yes."
Jiang Zhi watched the departing figure, exchanged a glance with Gu Liang, and then turned to the man to ask, "Brother, is that your sister-in-law?"
"Yes, so what?" the man said bluntly.
"I think my sister-in-law doesn't seem to be feeling well, so we don't need to trouble her."
"She's just asking for trouble," the man said nonchalantly. "You don't need to pay any attention to her."
Jiang Zhi raised an eyebrow but didn't respond.
Gu Liang looked out the door and said, "I see you still have some straw left to harvest in your yard. Why don't you let my two guards help?"
It is currently the summer harvest season, and the wheat in the northern areas has already been harvested, with stacks of straw piled up in the yards.
“I don’t need you,” the man said. “I’ll do it myself tomorrow.”
"I think it's going to rain tonight," Gu Liang said. "If we don't stack them up quickly, they'll get wet and we won't be able to use them to feed the livestock."
The man looked up at him and asked, "You know about this?"
I lived in the north for a period of time.
The man thought for a moment, then stood up. "Then I'll have to trouble you."
Gu Liang gestured for Xingluo and Jiaoyue to follow the man into the courtyard.
They found a few shovels in the yard. Both of them had practiced with Gu Liang before, so they worked quite well.
The woman, holding a bowl in one hand, seemed somewhat surprised by what she saw and opened her mouth as if to speak.
"Isn't he...?"
“This isn’t your home at all.” Gu Liang picked up a teacup from the table and stroked it. “There are clearly teacups on the table, but they’re serving guests in bowls. And the words on the wall about the God of Longevity further show that the person outside is definitely not the village chief.”
“The rooms in the courtyard all show signs of being occupied, but since we came in, only the two of you have appeared. What’s even stranger is that it should be time to prepare dinner at this time, but there’s no smoke coming from any of the village’s chimneys.”
He put down his teacup and looked at the woman in front of him. "Tell me, what's the reason for this?"
The woman's hand holding the kettle trembled violently, and with a "bang," the kettle fell to the ground.
And then she collapsed.
The instant she let go of the kettle, Gu Liang had already pulled Jiang Zhi aside.
The loud noise inside the house attracted a commotion.
The man shouted angrily, "What are you trying to do?" and charged forward.
Xingluo and Jiaoyue stopped him.
