Chapter 34 Leave the matter to this fairy.
Chapter 34 Leave the matter to this fairy.
The four daughters-in-law stood in a row in the kitchen, no one came out to break the silence, and no one spoke.
A moment later, the sound of a carriage came from outside, followed by Ling Dalang's urging voice, "Please hurry up."
The doctor wasn't angry at Ling Dalang's urging; a patient's acute illness could be life-threatening, and it was normal for family members to urge them.
The doctor entered the courtyard and saw several people kneeling there. He glanced at Ling Silang, sighed slightly, and went into the main room.
This doctor was the one from town. Only after the doctor went in did Ling Dalang silently walk to the side of his brothers and kneel down. The four brothers knelt in a row.
The doctor inside took Ling's father's pulse. "It's nothing serious. Just don't get angry lately, or you'll get upset. I'll prescribe some medicine to help you recover."
"Thank you, doctor." Ling's mother was really scared just now; she was afraid that the old man would just pass away.
This doctor was a regular at the Ling family's home and had a good relationship with Ling's mother and the others, so I couldn't help but ask, "Were you upset by the child?"
Ling's father nodded frankly, "They actually want to join the army."
The doctor knew about the Ling family's situation and understood after a moment's thought. "Your children are all good, and the brothers are united. It's rare to see such a family."
Ling's parents remained silent, only a deep sense of helplessness remained.
"Your fourth son has gotten married, and I think his wife is quite clever."
"Yes." Ling's mother's expression softened somewhat.
After thinking for a moment, the doctor said truthfully, "Although you have a wife, it is best for your son, Si Lang, to abstain from sexual intercourse, as it will accelerate his physical decline."
Ling's mother nodded awkwardly, "We've been living in separate rooms since we got married, we haven't lived together."
The doctor's eyes suddenly lit up. "I checked Silang's pulse last time, and the situation is not optimistic. Perhaps next year, he won't even be able to get out of bed."
Upon hearing this, Ling's mother immediately burst into tears. "Brother, is there any other way?"
The doctor shook his head. "In this situation, only those born into wealth and privilege have a slim chance of survival. For poor families like ours, it's difficult."
Ling's mother felt as if her heart had been ripped out. She forced herself to stay strong and gave the doctor some silver. "Thank you for your trouble. I'll have my eldest son go with you to get the medicine later."
"it is good."
After the doctor left, Ling Dalang went to get the medicine.
When Ling's mother came out and saw the three children kneeling in the yard, she looked at Ling Silang with heartache and said, "Get up, all of you. Don't kneel in the yard. Go and treat your wounds."
Ling Erlang and the others wanted to speak, but Ling's mother waved her hand, "Don't make your father angry anymore. The doctor also said that he can't get angry anymore."
The group had no choice but to get up.
Ling Erlang was in better condition. He got up and hurriedly helped Ling Silang up. Ling Sanlang had injured his knee and his leg hurt when he stood up.
Seeing Ling Sanlang's condition, Ling Silang said, "Second brother, hurry and go after the doctor, and ask him to come back and take a look at Third brother. He has injured his leg."
Just as Ling Erlang was about to say that he was leaving because Ling Silang couldn't stand steadily, Du Mingxian stood to the side and said, "Second brother, go quickly, I'll help my husband."
Ling Silang was feeling really unwell, and all his strength was leaning on Ling Erlang. He wanted to stand up on his own but couldn't. When Du Mingxian supported him, he also tried to support himself.
Du Mingxian pulled his arm over and placed it on her shoulder, then wrapped her other arm around his waist. "I can support you, so just lean on me."
She helped him back into the house; he seemed so light.
Du Mingxian placed him on the bed, hurriedly poured some water, added a drop of spiritual spring water, and handed him the teacup. "Is there anything that's bothering you?"
"No." Ling Silang shook his head, took the water, drank it, and then looked at Du Mingxian earnestly. "Thank you."
Du Mingxian took the teacup and put it aside. "You should rest well."
Ling Silang sighed softly, "The problems at home all started because of me. All three of my older brothers want to join the army. I can't let them be separated from their spouses because of me."
Du Mingxian said softly, "Don't worry, I will help you. I won't let them join the army. You can trust me."
“I believe you.” Ling Silang stared at her, then smiled. “I’ve used up all my luck in this life to meet you. It’s wonderful.”
He spoke softly, and Du Mingxian blushed, feeling her heart race. This man looked sickly, but his words were truly irresistible.
"Then live a good life. Don't you want to be surrounded by my children and grandchildren?"
Du Mingxian had no idea that her words of encouragement to Ling Silang would cause her a lot of suffering later on.
Ling Silang nodded emphatically, "Of course I want to."
"You'll get what you want, so just relax and take care of yourself. I'll take care of the rest."
Ling Silang suddenly asked, "Are you a fairy?"
"Yes, it is me. Do you believe me?"
"letter."
Du Mingxian smiled radiantly, "If you believe me, then lie down and rest for a while. Leave the rest to this fairy."
"Okay," Ling Silang replied, lying on the bed with his eyes closed, thinking about things.
Seeing him lie down, Du Mingxian took out a sleeping incense she had bought at a high price from her spatial storage because she used to have trouble sleeping due to stress, lit it, and placed it aside.
Ling Silang knew what Du Mingxian was doing. He smelled the incense burning, and before long, without hearing Du Mingxian leave, he had already fallen into a deep sleep.
After Du Mingxian left the house, she was about to go to the main room when there was a knock on the door. She opened the door and saw a strange woman standing there. She had only seen her once before, when she and her second sister-in-law had sat and chatted in the village.
"Fourth Brother's wife, word has come from your family that you need to go back immediately, they say your mother is dying."
"Okay, thank you." Du Mingxian said and ran into the main room. "Mother, I want to go back to see you."
Ling's mother frowned in displeasure. With such a big incident happening in the family, her daughter-in-law actually wanted to go back to her parents' home. How could this fourth daughter-in-law be so clueless at a time like this?
“My family sent someone to tell me that my mother is dying and I need to go back to see her.”
Upon hearing this, Ling's mother hurriedly said, "Then you should go quickly."
Du Mingxian didn't forget to add, "Mother, I lit some calming incense in my husband's room. The incense will help him sleep well through the night and wake up tomorrow morning, so you don't need to worry."
"Okay, go ahead."
Du Mingxian ran off without even going back to her own room. It wasn't until she ran out that Ling's mother remembered, "This child runs so fast. The mountain village is far away. She should take the oxcart."
Du Mingxian ran a mile outside the village, rode her horse along a small path, and arrived at Kaoshan Village in half an hour. It was still dark, and there were still people in the village.
When she ran into the village, some people were surprised to see her.
"Why is Mingxian back at this time?"
Du Mingxian didn't even have time to talk to the other person. She ran all the way to the Du family home. The gate of the Du family home was open. She pushed the door open and ran to the side room, but when she went in, she only saw Du Youtian.
Du Youtian was sitting on the bed in a daze when he saw his daughter suddenly barge in. His expression darkened. "Don't you have any manners? Don't you know how to knock before entering a room?"
The knocking on the door was a requirement from Du Mingwei in the family. Du Mingwei said it was a rule, so the Du family cared about it quite a bit.
"Where's my mother?"
An unnatural look flashed across Du Youtian's face. "Where's the woodshed?"
