Chapter 19 Powerful Protection of His Wife
Chapter 19 Powerful Protection of His Wife
When Huo Sili and Jiang Qin arrived at the hospital, the doctor had just closed the ward door.
A group of people stood outside the door. The lady at the head of the group, dressed as elegantly as ever, was about to step forward to ask a question when the middle-aged man beside her called out, "Second Young Master, Second Young Madam, you've arrived!"
Upon hearing the sound, Yuan Lianqing turned around, about to say something to Huo Sili, when Huo Sili walked straight to the doctor.
"Dr. Liu, how is my grandmother?"
Dr. Liu was Mrs. Huo's previous attending physician, so he naturally recognized Huo Sili. Seeing that Huo Sili was nervous, he quickly said...
"It's not a big problem. It's probably just unstable blood pressure caused by emotional excitement. We'll just wait for the old lady to wake up naturally. However, it's best if no one is in the ward right now so that the old lady can sleep peacefully for a while."
As the doctor finished speaking, Yuan Lianqing, standing beside Huo Sili, showed a slightly strange expression.
The doctor said a few more words, then was called away by a nurse who ran over to see other patients. Huo Sili glanced into the ward, then looked at Yuan Lianqing standing beside him with a sullen face.
Even though it was clearly her child, Yuan Lianqing felt a little intimidated by that gaze. She gritted her teeth to muster some courage, "Why are you looking at me like that? Do you think I deliberately angered your grandmother?"
Huo Sili's gaze was cool as he swept over Yuan Lianqing and then over Zhou Fu, the old housekeeper who had spoken earlier beside her.
He gestured for the two to follow him to a rest area in the distance, saying, "Let's talk over there."
Jiang Qin was nearby, so she naturally saw and heard everything that the three of them were doing and talking.
However, she did not go with them on her own initiative, but stood quietly outside the ward, looking at the elderly woman on the hospital bed through the glass window.
Four years ago, she accompanied her seriously ill grandmother day after day in the same way. Now, history seems to be repeating itself.
This forced her to reconsider her divorce from Horsley. The old lady's health was so poor; what would happen if she brought up divorce...?
Jiang Qin lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on her lower abdomen, her mind a jumble of thoughts.
Just then, a voice suddenly came from beside me, "The old lady's fingers seem to have moved."
Jiang Qin's eyes lit up, and when she looked up, it really was true!
She was overjoyed. Just then, Old Mrs. Huo on the sickbed struggled to open her eyes. Her gaze was somewhat confused. She turned her head and met Jiang Qin's gaze outside the window. Her eyes became clearer, and a look of joy appeared on her kind face.
"Grandma..." Jiang Qin called out subconsciously and headed towards the ward door, intending to push it open and go inside.
Suddenly, Yuan Lianqing's displeased voice rang out from behind, "Jiang Qin, what are you doing!"
Jiang Qin frowned slightly. In the past, she might have stopped now, after all, to give this mother-in-law some face.
But now...
Jiang Qin didn't want to suffer those inexplicable grievances anymore. She pressed down the doorknob, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
Behind him, Yuan Lianqing's face instantly turned as sour as a filthy ditch.
"Look at you, your wife! She doesn't listen to me, and she dares to disobey the doctor too!"
Huo Sili had his back to the ward door and was unaware of what had happened, but upon hearing Yuan Lianqing's words, his expression also turned grim.
His voice was calm as he looked directly into the woman's eyes as he spoke, "You said it yourself, she is my wife, my wife. She has a brain and doesn't need to blindly listen to anyone."
After saying that, Huo Sili walked towards the ward.
Yuan Lianqing was clearly not expected that Huo Sili would dare to talk back to her like that in public. She paused for two seconds before reacting, then glared angrily, stammering "you" for a long time without saying a word, pointing her index finger at Huo Sili's back in front of her, and laughed in anger.
Turning his head, he noticed the expression on the butler Zhou Fu's face and became even angrier.
"Uncle Zhou, are you laughing at me?!"
The old butler quickly forced a smile, looking at Yuan Lianqing with confusion, "Madam, you must be mistaken. Why would I laugh at you?"
Inside the ward, Huo Sili pressed the smart button, and the old lady slowly sat up against the headboard.
"Grandma, how are you? Is there anything still bothering you?" Jiang Qin asked, sitting on the bench beside her.
Grandma Huo smiled kindly, "No, no."
He paused for a moment, as if realizing something, then said, "Oh, I'm just a little thirsty."
Jiang Qin immediately stood up. "I'll go get you a glass of warm water."
A few minutes later, the old lady, who was drinking warm water, glanced at Huo Sili, then at Jiang Qin, and was about to say something when a gentle and pleasant male voice broke in, "Grandma."
The air in the ward seemed to fall silent instantly because of this sound.
Jiang Qin looked in the direction of the sound and her gaze fell on the tall, strong, handsome man who was being pushed in through the doorway, but who was sitting in a wheelchair.
"Big brother," she greeted him instinctively.
Huo Chishen smiled at Jiang Qin, "Qinqin, it's been a long time."
Beside the old lady, Huo Sili's gaze swept past Huo Chishen and fell back on Jiang Qin, his eyes noticeably darker than before.
Just as she was about to say something, Old Mrs. Huo was interrupted and forgot what she was going to say. When she saw Huo Chishen, a strange emotion flashed in her eyes, but her face remained kind.
"Chi Shen is here. Oh, Grandma is fine, don't worry."
Huo Sili's thin lips twitched slightly the next second, and his voice, as cold as his temperament, called out to Huo Chishen, "Brother."
Compared to Wen Chen, Huo Chishen's gentle temperament is not particularly strong. However, when compared to Huo Sili, Huo Chishen's smile easily evokes the image of a spring breeze blowing through a peach orchard, with peach blossoms in full bloom.
Upon hearing Huo Sili call him "brother," Huo Chi smiled and nodded slightly.
They're here at this time, so there's no doubt they're here to see Old Mrs. Huo.
The hospital bed was only so big, and Huo Chishen, sitting in a wheelchair, needed to be pushed. Yuan Lianqing and the old housekeeper were also coming in later, so Jiang Qin naturally made room for the people behind them.
"Grandma, I'll head out now," Jiang Qin said, taking the empty cup from Grandma Huo's hand.
The old lady glanced at the situation and said "Oh." Jiang Qin put down the cup and went out of the ward. Just as she went out, Yuan Lianqing and the housekeeper Zhou Fu walked over. Yuan Lianqing gave her a cold glance without any attempt to hide it.
Jiang Qin pretended not to see it and continued forward, sitting down on a chair on the other side of the corridor.
On her way here, a passerby was carrying a boxed lunch, and the greasy smell of meat dishes wafted out, making her stomach churn. Now, the air is filled with various smells of medicine and disinfectant, making her feel even more uncomfortable.
Jiang Qin adjusted her emotions, trying to suppress the nausea, took out her phone and lowered it, pretending to look down at her phone.
Unbeknownst to her, at that very moment, a deep, dark gaze was shooting out from the ward, fixed intently on her.
It belonged to none other than Horstley's.
"Alright, you've seen everything. I'm fine. Okay, let's get the paperwork done and go back to the old house."
A moment later, the doctor came in and did some more tests. After confirming that there was nothing seriously wrong, Mrs. Huo said to the people around her.
Huo Sili's gaze also returned to Jiang Qin, who was sitting in the distance, at this moment. "Okay."
The military hospital had multiple entrances and exits. Everyone went downstairs, got into the car, and drove straight to the one closest to the old house.
In the back seat, Jiang Qin was still a little uncomfortable, so she lifted the car curtain and lowered the window a bit to let in some natural breeze.
In a split second, he caught sight of something and raised an eyebrow slightly.
The couple who just walked by had the man's hand intimately wrapped around the woman's waist, and the man's profile looked a lot like Xie You'an.
Jiang Qin wondered if she was seeing things, so she continued to look in that direction. Suddenly, she felt a warmth behind her. Startled, she instinctively tried to let go and turn around, but before she could, her hand, which was holding the car window curtain, was suddenly enveloped by a warm, slender hand.
The close proximity and the warm breath falling on their necks instantly transformed the otherwise quiet back seat into an atmosphere of ambiguity.
Jiang Qin came to her senses and truly didn't understand what this person was going crazy about again.
She turned around awkwardly, a sudden surge of rebelliousness rising within her, and she really wanted to ask him that question. But as soon as she turned around, before she could even utter a sound, the man's dark eyes swept across her lips, and a fiery kiss fell upon her fiercely like an enraged beast.
Jiang Qin's clear, bright eyes suddenly widened.
