Chapter 536 The Traitors Deserve Punishment
Chapter 536 The Traitors Deserve Punishment
"He Yu," Wen Tingye called his assistant's name in a cold voice.
He Yu quickly handed the documents he had prepared to Wen Tingye.
These documents didn't stay in Wen Tingye's hands for more than a few seconds before he threw them onto the bluestone ground in front of Wen Na.
When Wenna saw the scattered white document pages, her anger subsided immediately, especially after seeing a mercenary contract; her face turned even uglier than a ghost.
How did Wen Tingye know all this? Did he secretly investigate her brother's information?
"Wen Na, you should be familiar with these things, right?" Wen Tingye's hawk-like eyes stared straight at Wen Na, as if he wanted to devour her, filled with bone-chilling hatred.
“I’ve never seen this before, I don’t know what it is.” Wenna instinctively shook her head frantically, clearly disgusted by the things at her feet.
The woman shrank back, her gaze filled with fear and unease, unable to focus on anything.
"I wonder what this is?" Wen Tingye bent down to pick up a few pieces of paper from the ground and moved step by step toward Wen Na.
Wen Na, who had been eagerly anticipating getting closer to Wen Tingye, now dared not look him in the eye. Her face was deathly pale, revealing her guilty conscience.
Wen Tingye's expression was too terrifying for Wen Na to bear; she had no face to look at him.
She never imagined that the truth would come out so suddenly; she thought she could keep this a secret from Wen Tingye forever!
How could that be? She clearly destroyed those documents; she burned them herself. How could Wen Tingye possibly find them?
"That day, I, Wen Tingye, escaped death and survived, but what about my brothers who died unjustly because of your brother's betrayal? Were their lives not as valuable as your brother's?"
“Wen Shuheng betrayed me, betrayed our entire legion. I should kill him with my own hands.”
"But I have blamed myself for years for this traitor who killed my brother, and even helped him raise his equally vicious sister. I thought I was good at judging people, but I was just blind."
The last four words were practically squeezed out by Wen Tingye through gritted teeth, each one sharp as ice, piercing Wen Na.
"Wen Shuheng is dead, but he didn't die to save me. He knew he couldn't make it to the battlefield alive, so he deliberately died in front of me to do me a favor and make me raise you, his cheap little sister. Tsk, what a clever scheme."
Wen Tingye's voice gradually grew louder, so deep that it made people's breathing quicken and they felt an overwhelming sense of oppression.
"Do you think he deserves to sleep here?" the man said, pointing his long, slender finger at the smooth, evenly repaired stone tombstone on the ground.
Several workers stood neatly to one side, and the leader glanced at his wristwatch; the hands pointed to the exact time.
"Let's start digging, it's time."
Raising hoes and shovels, some even carried huge, heavy electric drills, forcefully stabbing the sharp end into the rounded tombstone.
The mechanical sound rang out, and Wenna was startled by the loud noise. Her shoulders trembled and she shivered.
"No, Wen Tingye, I beg you, please don't smash my brother's grave, please!" Wen Na rushed to Wen Tingye, tears welling up in her eyes and streaming down her face.
If someone who didn't know the situation saw this, they might feel a little sorry for Wenna's pitiful appearance.
But everyone present knew the inside story, and no one thought that Wenna and the person buried in the ground were innocent.
If they are innocent, then what about those who died because of them?
What about Wen Tingye, who was kept in the dark for years and believed that his brother died to save him?
Wen Tingye's eyes were icy cold. He let Wen Na kneel at his feet, begging and saying no, but he was stingy with giving her a single word or a glance.
If it weren't for Wenna repeatedly making trouble for herself and insisting on touching the woman he cherished most...
Wen Tingye probably wouldn't have thought about teaching Wen Na well, and therefore wouldn't have discovered her dirty past.
Thinking about it, Wen Tingye lowered his eyes in disgust and looked at Wen Na, who was crying her eyes out and whose legs were too weak to stand up.
“It’s not impossible for me not to dig up your brother’s grave…” Wen Tingye suddenly spoke, his voice seemingly a little gentler, but there was no warmth in his eyes, only mockery and amusement.
Wenna thought there was hope. With teary eyes, she raised her face and deliberately put on a pitiful look, hoping to soften Wen Tingye's heart.
She has been living with Wen Tingye for several years now. Although they don't see each other every day, they meet many times a year.
Even so, Wenna still didn't understand Wen Tingye; she had no idea where his bottom line lay.
In Wen Na's mind, Wen Tingye had been treating her like a brother and sister for so many years, so there should be some feelings between them by now.
Wen Tingye's willingness to relent at this moment is nothing short of pity and heartache for her.
Wenna wiped the snot and tears from her face and asked in a hoarse voice, "Then... then what will it take for you to forgive me and my brother? What do you need me to do?"
"I...I'll do anything, as long as I can stay by your side, I'll do anything you ask, I'm willing to atone for my sins!"
"Regardless of whether my brother was truly going to die or died for you, he's already dead. No matter how deep the hatred was, it should end with his death, shouldn't it? He received his due punishment!"
Wenna was lost in her own thoughts and didn't notice how icy and piercing Wen Tingye's eyes were after hearing her words.
"Do you see the cemetery next to Wen Shuheng's?"
Wen Tingye raised an eyebrow and glanced casually at the new cemetery.
Then, the man's deep, indifferent voice rang out instantly, with a hint of laughter at the end.
“As long as you lie down inside, your brother won’t have to come out.”
"You and Wen Shuheng have such a good relationship. Being his neighbor will ensure he's not lonely on his journey to the afterlife, and he'll have you as his companion..."
Wen Tingye bent down slightly, squinted at Wen Na, the two were very close, and the man's voice was so deep that it made one's spine ache.
Am I generous enough? Am I considerate enough of you siblings?
As soon as Wen Tingye finished speaking, Wen Na seemed to have been struck in her vital spot. She staggered, braced herself on the ground to straighten up, and retreated sharply, refusing to get any closer to Wen Tingye.
"Do not……"
"No no no..."
She's so young, she has a bright future ahead of her!
She studied abroad, her resume is gilded, and now she's entered the Imperial City Media University, her future is limitless, how could she die?
Seeing Wenna avoiding the new grave as if it were a snake or a scorpion, Wen Tingye laughed.
Wenna knew she had never truly understood Wen Tingye; he was not as good-tempered as she had imagined.
It turns out that his concern for her was only because of her brother, and once that connection with her brother was gone, she would have nothing left...
No, she still gained something. After all, thanks to her brother's sacrifice, she was able to study for so many years. She didn't pay for her own tuition and living expenses; she earned it!
So what if she doesn't have Wen Tingye? She can find another rich and handsome man.
Even if she's not as good as Wen Tingye, at least she's confident she can control him and keep his heart firmly tied to hers!
Isn't this better than her trying to win Wen Tingye's cold shoulder all the time?
Wenna had finally come to her senses. She glanced coldly at her brother's grave, then resolutely turned and left, fleeing as fast as the wind.
Seeing Wenna's retreating figure without turning her head, even He Yu couldn't help but blurt out, "I've never seen such a heartless and ungrateful person!"
Wen Tingye had expected this, so he felt no sense of disappointment. He simply glanced coldly at the construction workers.
The workers didn't understand what Wen Tingye meant, and one by one they stopped what they were doing.
The foreman asked, "Shall we continue digging?"
Upon hearing this, Wen Tingye glanced at the name on the tombstone, his thin lips slightly parted, and he said in a deep voice, "Keep digging. Once you find it, move it to that ordinary cemetery in the suburbs."
