Chapter 7 Meng Linlang's Imagination
Chapter 7 Meng Linlang's Imagination
"You silly girl, what's wrong with you having a mouth?" Madam Wu walked up to Shan Man, who was staring blankly, with a chuckle and tugged at her.
Under the watchful eyes of the villagers, her arrogance towards Shan Qiyu vanished. "Kids are unpredictable; they might make up after a little while."
The polite smile on Shan Qiyu's face disappeared. "Manman is only a year younger than Qingqing, she is still young. It's really impolite of her to wear such bright clothes to a funeral. Auntie should teach her a lesson."
After saying this, leaving behind a grim-faced Wu Shi, the funeral procession continued slowly toward the village.
Madam Wu came today with the intention of watching the excitement, and at the same time, she thought that Shan Qiyu was still young, and with her appearance and character when she was young, it would not be difficult for her to get engaged again.
She could have gotten a matchmaker's fee, but before she could even get any information, her eldest granddaughter, who was pestering her to come over, ruined the whole thing.
"What's the point of talking to her? What does she know?" she berated him. "Aren't you afraid she'll be tainted by your poverty and won't be able to find a good husband?"
"Grandma, I didn't ask her those questions..." Shan Manman felt wronged.
"Whether you ask or not, just remember to have less contact with them. If it weren't for your aunt's husband dying, would I have wanted to come to this lousy place?"
After thinking about it, Madam Wu realized that talking to her niece today was not as easy as before, and she lost interest.
"Alright, it's getting late, let's go back."
Dan Man stammered, "Grandma, aren't you going to the feast?"
Wu glanced at her and said irritably, "A feast? Your family is dirt poor, what kind of feast could you possibly put together? It's a miracle you even have anything to eat! We have plenty of meat at home, why are you so greedy! Come on, let's go home!"
After saying that, she turned and was about to leave when, for some reason, she tripped over something, her feet went astray, and she lost her balance, swaying and about to fall down the hillside.
Dan Man instinctively tried to pull the person back, but it was too late. He watched helplessly as the person screamed and fell down the hillside.
"Grandma!!"
She hurriedly rushed down the hillside, but something grabbed her foot and she fell down as well.
Unfortunately, the grandmother and granddaughter fell together. Shan Wu felt dizzy and her whole body ached. Her left arm was also pressed down by her granddaughter. With a 'crack', Shan Wu screamed and then fainted from the pain.
Seeing that the grandfather and grandson hadn't followed, no one paid any attention. Hearing the calls, they assumed it was the grandfather and grandson calling them and didn't want to respond at all.
People who don't seem sincere are better off not coming at all; it's just annoying to watch them.
Meng Fuqing retracted the almost invisible vine threads from his fingertips, no longer caring about the grandfather and grandson who had fallen down the hillside.
Wu kept hovering around Shan Qiyu, and Shan Qiyu suspected that Wu had ulterior motives. Wu worried that Shan Qiyu might be easily swayed by Wu's emotional appeal and be fooled. This fall would leave her unable to recover for a while.
As she walked, she suddenly felt a gaze fall upon her.
Looking up, she saw her married-out aunt in front of her.
Since getting married, this younger sister-in-law has rarely had any contact with her family, but she has been frequently in contact with Meng Cheng'an's family.
Just then, her cousin Meng Linlang, who was walking with her aunt, turned her head and looked in her direction, her gaze filled with inquiry.
Meng Fuqing recalled that the original owner and Meng Linlang did not have a good relationship. To be precise, Meng Linlang never gave Meng Shaoyuan's family a kind look.
The original owner was aware of the discord between her uncle's family and her own family, and felt quite guilty, so she always greeted her cousin Meng Linlang with a smile.
Meng Linlang is lively and cheerful, and she can talk and act cute. She has twin brothers above her and two younger brothers below her. As the only girl in the family, she is the legendary darling of the family.
Compared to the original owner who was always getting beaten up, didn't like to talk, and was sometimes gloomy, they were two extremes.
Meng Linlang never treated the original owner kindly because of their cousin relationship. She was also very popular, and the girls and boys in the village who played with her were unwilling to have any contact with the original owner. Together with Meng Ranran and Meng Ali, she became someone that the children in the village did not want to associate with.
Fortunately, Shan Qiyu was willing to cultivate relationships with the villagers, which prevented the family from becoming a plague-like entity.
Meng Fuqing glanced at Meng Linlang, then quickly looked away.
Unwittingly, Meng Linlang was quite frightened by Meng Fuqing's glance.
Even though it was someone familiar, when those eyes swept over her, Meng Linlang felt a chill run down her spine. It was as if the other person was looking at an inanimate object rather than a living person.
She believed herself to be perceptive and certain she wouldn't be mistaken.
Hastily averting her gaze, Meng Linlang refused to glance at Meng Fuqing again.
She couldn't help but wonder—something seemed different about her cousin.
Not only did the smile disappear from his face, but he also became unpredictable.
Does Meng Fuqing think that the feud between the two families is wiped clean just because his uncle died?
Meng Linlang clenched her hands. Because of her uncle, her father was ignored by her parents and villagers before the family split up. He worked silently like an old ox, doing the heaviest work at home. Her grandparents took it for granted, and her uncle never said thank you.
Even so, her uncle didn't even pass the imperial examination, and her family not only didn't benefit from it at all, but was also constantly being exploited.
Not to mention that Meng Fuqing almost killed him in his dream.
Meng Fuqing should be jealous of herself for the rest of her life, forever stuck in the mire, just like in her dream. Meng Linlang thought resentfully.
Of course, Meng Fuqing wasn't worth doing anything herself; on the contrary, she could get close to her cousin as her cousin wished.
As long as her cousin cooperates with her to obtain the Spirit Spring Space, then she can only watch helplessly as she climbs higher and higher until she reaches a position that she can no longer see even if she looks up.
Having made up her mind, Meng Linlang let out a soft breath, feeling a little more at ease.
After a simple burial, the family couldn't even afford a feast. Fortunately, everyone who came knew that Shan Qiyu had three children and that his family was destitute. They gathered at the village entrance, talked for a while, and then went home.
Shan Qiyu originally wanted to invite her sister-in-law to her home for a meal, but found that she had already left.
I think I went to my uncle's house.
She felt both relieved and indebted to her relatives and neighbors, and was under immense pressure.
But in front of her children, she could only pretend to be relaxed. She first asked her eldest daughter if she felt dizzy or in pain, and only after receiving a negative answer did she smile gently and say, "Let's go home, and Mom will cook something for you."
Meng Fuqing knew immediately that it must be wild vegetable pancakes.
She's almost overeaten.
Meng Ali was overjoyed: "Oh~! Let's go home!"
He laughed heartily and wiggled his short legs as he tried to run home.
Meng Ranran ordered him, "Ali, don't run away! Come and help your older sister!"
Ah Li immediately turned around happily and trotted over to Meng Fuqing's side, helping Meng Fuqing walk forward in a very professional manner.
Meng Fuqing had gotten used to their current way of getting along, and comfortably supported himself with two human-shaped canes of different lengths on either side.
"Mom, let's go dig for wild vegetables together tomorrow."
